About the role
Burn is looking for a Field Operations Manager to lead end-to-end supply chain and distribution operations in Tanzania, including inventory management, warehousing, and last-mile delivery, ensuring efficiency and reliability across the network. The role also involves building operational infrastructure from the ground up, managing teams, and driving data-driven performance to support BURN’s growth and impact.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Inventory Planning & Management: Lead and manage all inventory planning and management efforts in the country. Design and implement effective processes and procedures to optimize inventory levels and controls across the network of warehouses and stockist points. Build a network of regional warehouses and stock points from scratch.
  • Warehousing Management: Oversee the setup, organization, and operational efficiency of all warehouses nationwide. Ensure adherence to storage standards, inventory accuracy, safety protocols, and proper documentation across all facilities. Drive warehouse process improvements, layout optimization, and automation where applicable.
  • Last Mile Distribution: Develop and manage BURN’s last-mile distribution framework to ensure timely and efficient delivery of products to end-users and stockist points. Establish strong distribution partnerships, track performance, and implement monitoring tools to maintain high service levels and data visibility across all last-mile channels.
  • Inventory Control: Lead the full wall-to-wall stock count every month across all stoves and inventory items located at HQ and field warehouses.
  • Inbound Logistics: Manage all in-country customs clearance, importation of CKD kits, and receipt of finished goods into the various warehouses nationwide, ensuring smooth delivery to the last mile.
  • Outbound Logistics: Ensure seamless and timely transfer of stock from the central warehouse to regional warehouses, stockist points, and last-mile distribution partners.
  • Carbon Registration: Assist in designing and implementing strategies to ensure 100% end-user data registration in both B2B and B2C distribution settings. Ensure full compliance with carbon data requirements at all warehouses, stockist points, and last-mile distribution levels.
  • Team Management: Build, develop, and manage a team of warehouse officers, distribution coordinators, and support staff to deliver operational excellence.
  • Collaboration: Serve as a key liaison between Sales, Finance, Admin, and other support functions to ensure cohesive operations and alignment across departments.
  • Reporting: Produce analytical reports for management on operational performance, distribution efficiency, and warehouse utilization metrics
  • After-sales: In collaboration with the management team, design and implement the after-sales strategy. Establish and manage a call centre and network of repair stations from scratch to support customer satisfaction and product longevity.
  • Forecasting: Own all in-country shipment forecasts and liaise regularly with the Field Ops HQ team, production, and operations teams to align supply with demand.
  • Monitoring of Trade Regulations: Stay informed on trade and import regulations related to cooking appliances. Monitor any changes in tax and duty structures and escalate as necessary.
Skills and Experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree from a university (Master’s degree / MBA is a plus).
  • Experience in pay-go, especially growing the distribution network sustainably.
  • 3+ years of B2B and B2C operations experience at a mid-level in transport and distribution (Last Mile Distribution).
  • 3 years of supply chain management experience (demand & supply, inventory planning, warehouse management), preferably in an environment of finished goods, parts, and kits, would be a plus.
  • 3+ Years experience building and managing a network of warehouses and stock points.
  • 2 Years managing an after-sales office and team.
  • 3 years of experience importing goods into the country and working with customs.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Strong analytic/number crunching background, supported by excellent graphical presentation skills.
  • Strong leadership and people development skills.
  • Experience managing ‘know your customer programs; develop incentives to ensure the return of end-user data in both B2C and B2B settings.
  • Enthusiastic, proactive, organized, creative, a desire to “sell for good”, and a willingness to get your hands dirty.
  • Experience working on carbon offsetting projects, preferably with a focus on renewable energy products.
  • Should have a methodical approach to complete the assigned work and should pay strong attention to detail.
  • Good knowledge in Supply Chain (inbound & outbound) and warehousing.
  • Good knowledge of analytical and organizational skills.
  • Should have excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Computer literate and highly proficient in spreadsheets- Ms. Excel.
  • Self-driven, innovative, team player, fast learner, and committed to responsibilities.
