The team empowers business partners across Commercial, Medical, and Government Affairs (CMG) to make impactful decisions by leveraging data, analytics, and AI/ML to enable fast, targeted actions in rapidly evolving business contexts.

The Opportunity

As a Field Medical Insights Director, you will provide thought leadership to the Head of the Field Medical Team and the Field Medical Executive Director (MED) Leadership Team by shaping analytics approaches and providing strategic insights to identify opportunities and risks and make data-driven decisions.

You will partner with many functions in Data, Digital and Analytics and throughout the Genentech organization (Squad, Marketing, US Medical Affairs, Field Medical Operations, Evidence for Access [E4A], Finance, Legal, Compliance, etc.) and lead cross-functional teams to better understand and assess the customer issues that impact Field Medical Executive Directors. You will influence and pull through specific strategies and tactics at the national, regional, Ecosystem and customer level, leveraging hands on analytical skills with a range of relevant data sets to identify field opportunities and/or barriers, develop field strategy and tactics to pursue them, and support Field Medical Executive Director teams in their execution.

In addition, a key responsibility of this role is partnering with the Field Analytics & Insights Head and their Leadership Team to catalyze coordination between Ecosystem teams and MED teams to shape the analytics strategy within FAI and across the organization. You may also guide systems, tools, and reporting support as required for effective pull through and execution of this work.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the primary analytics and insight advisor to the Head of the Field Medical Team and the Field Medical Executive Director Team
  • Continue to refine and evolve our Medical analytical strategy to enable broad support for medical strategies across the portfolio and across local healthcare markets
  • Lead, shape, and influence the Field Medical Data House initiative
  • Facilitate discussions with senior leaders (Executive Directors, VPs, and above) to guide strategic data-driven resourcing decisions
  • Proactively perform analyses, derive key insights, make and present recommendations to leaders across the Field Medical organization. Examples of analyses include: Population health based analyses aligned with Strategic Medical Plans, Understand payer landscape and opportunities for medical engagement to assure appropriate patient access to care, Field force customer alignment and prioritization to optimize medical impact to Account analysis and planning, Medical customer pull-through strategies, and Portfolio pull-through and national opportunity optimization
  • Collaborate with partner groups to deliver a holistic, actionable insights while considering a comprehensive view of the organization and portfolio
  • Demonstrate a strategic, agile and customer-centric mindset to achieving business objectives
  • Contribute insights and perspectives into long-range business plans and other strategic deliverables
  • Serve as an advisor to help pull through tools, processes and reporting to enhance this capability
  • Contribute to and lead FAI department and function-wide initiatives as part of the extended leadership team
  • Look for opportunities for continuous improvement; engage managers and peer group regularly for coaching, assistance, and advocacy, and look for opportunities to act as a peer mentor
  • Take an enterprise mindset, linking individual responsibilities to the broader organization, focusing on outcomes that achieve the most business and patient value

Who You Are:

  • Minimum BS/BA degree with Science, Engineering, Mathematics/Statistics, Business, Healthcare or Healthcare Informatics concentration preferred. MBA or advanced degree desired.
  • 8+ years of work experience in management/strategy consulting, strategy or other analytical work in pharmaceutical, biotechnology, healthcare or other industries
  • Healthcare industry (managed care, PBM, SP, pathway companies) knowledge
  • Demonstrated track record of leading and influencing cross functional teams and Senior Leaders
  • Working knowledge of secondary data sources including claims data, population health analyses, longitudinal patient level data; experience with payer data is a plus.
  • Experience consolidating and synthesizing information from various inputs, and presenting results, impact and recommendations to non-technical and/or executive audiences.
  • Experience developing and using Excel-based models as well as other modeling and reporting platforms (e.g. R, SQL, SAS, Qlik, Tableau)
  • Strong strategic thinking and structured, problem solving skills
  • Strong attention to detail and project management skills
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, and facilitation skills
  • Proven track record of developing strong and trusted relationships
  • Proven track record of meeting or exceeding objectives and goals
  • Business travel may be required

Relocation benefits are not available for this posting.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of South San Francisco, CA is $172,600 - 320,600 USD Annual. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
