WHAT YOU’LL DO

As a Field Marketing Ambassador, you will be the face of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway (IMS) at events, festivals, and community activations across Central Indiana and statewide outreach initiatives. In this role, you’ll help drive fan engagement, manage promotional materials, and proudly represent the IMS brand as an official ambassador.

Working closely with the IMS Marketing Team, you’ll support grassroots marketing efforts by traveling to various events, connecting with consumers, generating leads, and promoting both the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and the NTT INDYCAR SERIES.

This is a hands-on, fast-paced internship ideal for students or young professionals who are passionate about marketing, fan experiences, live events, and motorsports — and want to gain real-world experience working with one of the most iconic brands in sports.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

Event Support

  • Manage IMS displays, signage, and collateral at all assigned events, including set-up and tear-down.

Fan Engagement

  • Interact with attendees in a friendly and approachable way, educating them about IMS events and promotions.

Data Collection

  • Encourage fans to sign up for giveaways, email lists, and promotions to help grow the IMS database.

Brand Representation

  • Serve as a credible IMS brand expert by developing in-depth knowledge of IMS events, athletes, and offerings.

Ambassador Role

  • Embody the IMS brand at all times, maintaining a positive and professional presence at every event.

Crowd Interaction

  • Be the outgoing personality that captivates audiences, approaches strangers with confidence, and initiates natural conversations.

Required Experience & Skills:

  • 21+ preferred
  • Passionate about sports, motorsports and/or sports marketing
  • Possess strong interpersonal, communication and verbal skills
  • Outgoing, energetic, and comfortable speaking with strangers
  • Able to work evenings, weekends, and event days as needed
  • Reliable transportation to and from events
  • Promotional experience is a plus
  • Must be willing to work unusual hours
  • Must have a flexible schedule

Conduct:

  • Maintains high level of energy during entire duration of shift
  • Must be able to work exceptionally well with others in a close team environment
  • Charming and outgoing attitude during shifts
  • Embodies brand values during every shift
  • Must be polite, courteous, and treat all consumers respectfully regardless of the situation
  • Must be able to sit for extended periods of time during long drives in an IMS vehicle
  • Must be able to stand and remain mobile for extended periods of time during events
  • Must treat the company vehicles and promotional displays/supplies with care whether on or off the road

Education:

  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a four-year college or university, pursuing a degree in Marketing, Communications, Sports Management, or a related field

Leadership:

  • This role does not have direct supervisory responsibilities

FLEXIBILITY & TRAVEL:

Must be able to work at least one event shift per week or 10-15 hours. Required dates include:

February-April: Must be available to work at least one event shift per week or 10-15 hours per week. Required dates include:

  • February 19 – 100 Days Out from the Indy 500 Fan Celebration

May: Must be available to work at IMS and at off-site field marketing events 20-25 hours per week. Required dates include:

  • May 1 – Month of May Kick-off Event
  • May 14 – Sonsio Grand Prix Practice & Qualifying
  • May 15 – Sonsio Grand Prix Race Day
  • May 18 – Naturalization Ceremony
  • May 21 – Indy 500 Fast Friday Practice
  • May 22 – PPG presents Indy 500 Armed Forces Qualifying
  • May 23 – PPG presents Indy 500 Armed Forces Qualifying
  • May 26 – Community Day presented by Gallagher and Coca-Cola Indy 500 Porch Party Winner Visits
  • May 28 – Miller Lite Carb Day
  • May 29 – Legends Day
  • May 30 – 111th Running of the Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge

June-September: Must be available to work at least one event shift per week or 10-15 hours per week. Required dates include:

  • July 22 – Hauler Parade
  • July 23 – Brickyard Weekend Practice
  • July 24 – Pennzoil 250 presented by Take 5 Oil Change
  • July 25 – Brickyard 400 presented by PPG
  • September 16 – IMSA Street Festival
  • September 17 – IMSA Practice
  • September 18 – IMSA Qualifying
  • September 19 – TireRack.com Battle on the Bricks IMSA Race

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. and assist with event set-up and tear-down.
  • Extended periods of standing or walking (as needed)
  • Comfortable working indoors/outdoors and around event noise

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Fast-paced, collaborative office and event settings
  • Staff will experience frequent interruptions and must be prepared to interact with others on a regular basis
