We have an opportunity for a Field Manager to lead a team of Field Technicians in Palmerston North. Reporting to the Regional Operations Manager, you will create a motivated and productive team that consistently delivers quality service and meets customer commitments.

You will set clear expectations, coach and develop your people, and ensure build, provisioning and maintenance activities are completed effectively, economically and to the required workmanship standards. You will also oversee operational processes, customer service, budget performance, inventory use and Zero Harm outcomes.

In this role, you will:

  • Lead, support and develop Field Technicians to achieve individual and team productivity targets.
  • Manage performance, training and development, recruitment and employment-related matters in line with Downer processes.
  • Drive delivery against customer commitments, KPIs and service level targets.
  • Manage operational processes, timesheets, team budgets, forecasts, spares, inventory and materials.
  • Build collaborative relationships with customers, suppliers, subcontractors, operational leaders and other Field Managers.
  • Lead Zero Harm, quality, environmental and risk management practices across field operations.
  • Identify improvement opportunities that strengthen quality, efficiency and productivity.

  • You are a practical, people-focused leader who sets clear expectations, builds trust and keeps customers, safety and performance front of mind. You will bring:
  • Demonstrable experience, or clear potential, to lead a technical field team in a service-based industry.
  • Strong planning, organising and resource management capability.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to provide guidance and direction.
  • A customer-focused, proactive approach and a drive to deliver results.
  • Commercial awareness, integrity and sound business ethics.
  • Experience coaching and developing people.
  • An understanding of employment agreement interpretation.
  • Computer literacy.
  • A Level 4 NZQA qualification and a Supervisory Certificate or higher are preferred. Formal training in health and safety management is also required.
