Position Summary
Chartis Federal is seeking a Field Maintenance Technician to perform preventive and corrective maintenance, fault isolation, and sustainment support for U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s mobile surveillance systems, approximately 165 Mobile Video Surveillance Systems (MVSS/MVSS-R) and 90 Mobile Surveillance Capability systems (MSC/MSC-Lite), supporting U.S. Border Patrol operations along the southern and northern borders.
This role performs hands-on maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of mobile surveillance platforms, tactical communications and Land Mobile Radio (LMR) equipment, and associated command-and-control systems to reduce downtime and sustain operational availability for Border Patrol Agents.
Responsibilities
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance, fault isolation, and removal/replacement of failed Line Replaceable Units (LRUs) on mobile surveillance, tower, and sensor network systems
- Troubleshoot and restore proprietary system software to full operational capability
- Assist Sector Fleet with recovery of surveillance systems and equipment mounted on disabled trucks
- Operate within CBP sustainment support facilities, managing forward-deployed spares
- Complete Organizational and Intermediate Level maintenance per system maintenance manuals, maintenance plans, and SOPs
- Document all maintenance actions, inventory, and asset condition in the Integrated Logistics Support System (ILSS)/Maximo
- Support installation, integration, testing, programming, and troubleshooting of LMR and tactical communications equipment
- Escalate maintenance issues that cannot be resolved locally to the immediate supervisor within 48 hours
- Provide Help Line telephonic support during normal business hours (0600–1800 local time)
- Travel locally/regionally (up to 25%) within the assigned area of operation to maintain surveillance technologies
- Operate specialized tools and equipment (gantry cranes, pallet jacks, hoists, forklifts) in support of sustainment activities
- Climb ladders and mobile systems safely to perform maintenance and repairs at elevated heights
Requirements
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in tactical communications installation and integration, electronic systems repair, mobile surveillance system maintenance, testing, programming, troubleshooting, and design, or equivalent
- Valid state-issued driver’s license, required to travel to repair and maintenance sites
- Gantry Crane Operator certification (current, or ability to obtain within 180 days of hire)
- Ability to lift objects in excess of 50 lbs., climb ladders and mobile systems, and work in outdoor/field conditions, including extreme weather
- U.S. citizenship required; Lawful Permanent Resident status is not accepted for this contract
- Must satisfy CBP pre-screening requirements (no felony conviction within the past 36 months; no illegal drug use within the past 12 months) and obtain a favorably adjudicated Tier 4 (T4) or Tier 5 (T5) background investigation
- Must complete DHS IT Security Awareness Training and Privacy Training, and sign the DHS Rules of Behavior, within 30 days of assignment
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience maintaining CBP/DHS mobile surveillance systems (MVSS, MSC) or similar tactical/border security technology
- Forklift Operator certification
- Experience with ILSS/Maximo or comparable logistics and asset-tracking systems
- OSHA and ANSI/TIA safety training or certification
Work Environment / Physical Requirements
- Field and remote-site environment, including maintenance shops and outlying locations
- Exposure to potentially hazardous conditions (electrical shock, falls, chemicals, wildlife, hostile environments) and extreme weather
- Requires climbing tall ladders and mobile systems, lifting objects over 50 lbs., and crouching or crawling in small work areas
- Up to 25% local/regional travel within the assigned area of operation
