Purpose of Role
The Education Department at Daemen University is seeking to recruit qualified supervisor(s) for student teaching and other field experiences. University supervisors are assigned for one-on-one support of teacher candidates to support their reflection and observe/evaluate their teaching. They will also be the initial point of contact between the Cooperating Teacher from the school placement and Daemen University. All observations will be completed remotely using video analysis software. Student debrief meetings will be scheduled after-school hours via Zoom.
These courses are authentic student teaching experiences in two different classroom settings. Students spend full days with the cooperating teacher for a minimum of 7 weeks/35 days in each of the placements (following the district academic calendar). Each placement begins as scaffolded/supported teaching experience with a minimum of at least one week takeover as the classroom teacher by the end of the experience. Students are responsible for their own transportation and completing any background checks required by the school district.
Student Teaching course numbers vary based on program. Student Teaching supervisors are paid per student and are not the lead instructor of record.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications: NYS teacher certification (any area) Expertise in instructional pedagogy, learning theory, learner development PK-12, culturally responsive & sustaining teaching practices, and Universal Design for Learning (UDL) Familiarity with the NYS P-12 learning standards At least three years teaching experience in Grades PK-12 or similar relevant experience A Master's degree in Education, content area, or a related field Familiarity with use of Zoom and Google Workspace Comfort with learning new technologies for video-based supervision
Preferred Qualifications: Teaching experience in higher education/teacher preparation NYS teacher certification in Students with Disabilities (any grades)
