Job Description

Field Engineering Support Coordinator

Working in Field Engineering Support, you'll be the first point of contact for our customers (residential, commercial, and developers) for natural gas services (e.g., gas meter moves, gas service line relocates) while supporting our distribution integrity management program (DIMP) of work. You'll also be responsible for projects ranging in scope from relocating gas infrastructure requested from the City of Colorado Springs and/or the Colorado Department of Transportation as well as reviewing residential customer service changes or meter relocations.

PLEASE NOTE: This position will be filled at one of the following three levels based on the experience and qualifications of the successful candidate -

  • Engineering Support Specialist ($36.54 to $42.01)
  • Senior Engineering Support Specialist ($40.29 to $46.33)
  • Engineering Support Coordinator ($46.62 to $53.60)

What Else Will You be Doing?

  • Preparing construction drawings using AutoCAD and materials specifications; ensuring that construction materials meet specifications
  • Reviewing drawings for land/subdivision development, discussing existing layouts, and working with homeowners and commercial customers
  • Reviewing contracts; understanding and interpreting tariffs and costs; preparing time and material estimates; and reviewing and designing projects using AutoCAD and other engineering applications
  • Coordinating with various departments (gas and electric planning, maintenance, energy construction, QC inspectors, etc.), customers, and regulatory agencies
  • Taking pictures and documenting information obtained through performing pre-and post-construction site visits
  • Participating in storm patrols to assist in coordinating efforts to investigate the nature of the outages during inclement weather

Who You Are

  • Experience providing engineering support expertise and guidance, preferably with natural gas-related projects and construction
  • Experience using AutoCAD and/or other similar engineering applications
  • Possession of either of the following:
    • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil Engineering from an accredited institution OR 7 years of engineering-related experience (gas utility is preferred)
    • Associate's Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil Engineering from an accredited institution OR 5 years of engineering-related experience (gas utility is preferred)
  • Possession of a valid, unrestricted driver's license is required

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

  • Exerts up to 20 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 lbs. of force frequently, and/or a small amount of force constantly to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those required for Sedentary Work. Even though the weight lifted may be only a small amount, a job should be rated Light Work when it requires walking or standing to a significant degree or when it requires sitting most of the time, but entails pushing and/or pulling of arm or leg controls and/or when the job requires working at a production rate pace entailing the constant pushing and/or pulling of materials even though the weight of those materials is small. NOTE: The constant stress and strain of maintaining a production rate pace, especially in an industrial setting, can be and is physically demanding work even though the amount of force exerted is negligible.
  • Positions in this class typically require reaching, standing, walking, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.
