Overview
We are seeking a qualified and experienced Field Engineer – Materials to oversee material engineering, testing, inspection, and compliance activities for a major site supervision consultancy project in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that all construction materials incorporated into the works comply with approved specifications, quality standards, project requirements, and applicable codes and regulations. Working closely with the Resident Engineer, Quality Manager, Construction Manager, contractors, suppliers, and testing laboratories, the Field Engineer – Materials will play a critical role in maintaining the quality and integrity of construction works throughout the project lifecycle.
Your role
- Supervise and monitor all material-related activities to ensure compliance with project specifications, approved material submittals, and contractual requirements.
- Review and evaluate material submittals, technical data sheets, material certifications, warranties, and manufacturers' documentation.
- Verify that materials delivered to the site conform to approved submissions and quality standards.
- Conduct site inspections to ensure proper storage, handling, protection, and usage of construction materials.
- Coordinate and witness sampling, testing, and laboratory inspections for construction materials.
- Monitor testing of concrete, cement, aggregates, reinforcement steel, structural steel, waterproofing systems, façade materials, architectural finishes, and MEP-related materials.
- Review laboratory test reports and ensure compliance with project specifications and applicable standards.
- Coordinate with accredited laboratories and third-party testing agencies for material verification and compliance assessments.
- Monitor implementation of Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs) related to construction materials.
- Ensure material traceability and maintain records of approvals, inspections, and testing results.
- Identify non-conforming materials and recommend corrective and preventive actions.
- Review contractor quality control procedures related to material procurement, storage, testing, and installation.
- Conduct factory visits and supplier inspections when required to assess manufacturing quality and compliance.
- Support the Quality Assurance and Quality Control teams in resolving material-related NCRs and observations.
- Verify compliance with international standards, Saudi regulations, and project-specific requirements.
- Coordinate with civil, structural, architectural, electrical, and mechanical supervision teams regarding material acceptance and quality concerns.
- Participate in technical meetings, quality reviews, and progress meetings.
- Assist in evaluating material substitutions and value engineering proposals.
- Support testing, commissioning, snagging, and handover activities by ensuring all material records are complete and compliant.
- Prepare material inspection reports, quality assessments, testing summaries, and compliance reports.
About you
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Materials Engineering, Construction Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 8+ years of overall professional experience in material engineering, testing, quality control, or construction supervision.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a Materials Engineer or Materials Inspection role on major building projects.
- Proven experience in large-scale buildings, convention centers, hotels, resorts, mixed-use developments, commercial towers, or hospitality projects.
- Experience within Site Supervision Consultancy, PMC, or Engineering Consultancy environments is highly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of construction materials, material specifications, testing procedures, and quality standards.
- Experience reviewing material submittals, technical specifications, laboratory reports, and compliance documentation.
- Familiarity with international standards such as ASTM, ACI, BS, ISO, EN, and relevant Saudi codes and regulations.
- Strong understanding of concrete technology, structural steel, reinforcement, waterproofing systems, architectural finishes, and building materials.
- Experience coordinating with accredited testing laboratories and third-party inspection agencies.
- Knowledge of QA/QC processes, Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), and quality management systems.
- Ability to identify material deficiencies and recommend practical corrective actions.
- Strong analytical, technical, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication, reporting, and stakeholder coordination capabilities.
- Previous experience in Saudi Arabia or the GCC region is highly preferred.
- Membership in a recognized professional engineering institution is desirable.
- Fluency in English is required; Arabic language skills are an advantage.
