About the Role

We are seeking a technically strong and customer-focused Field Engineer to join our Engineering Services team.

Reporting to the Field Engineering Supervisor, this role plays a critical part in strengthening Swagelok’s position as a trusted engineering partner by providing high-level technical advisory, system analysis, and engineering insight across a wide range of customer applications. You will operate as a subject matter expert, supporting both customers and internal teams in understanding, diagnosing, and optimising fluid system performance.

This role is centred around engineering analysis and advisory, rather than hands-on execution. You will work closely with customers and internal stakeholders to evaluate system performance, identify risks, validate engineering assumptions, and recommend technically sound and commercially viable solutions. Your involvement will span the full customer lifecycle—from early-stage discovery and qualification through to troubleshooting, optimisation, and long-term system improvement.

A key part of the role involves conducting on-site system evaluations across applications such as analytical instrumentation systems, process instrumentation systems, gas distribution systems, sampling systems, and high-pressure fluid systems. You will assess system performance, review installation practices, perform engineering calculations, and interpret field findings to produce structured engineering reports that clearly outline risks, root causes, and recommended improvements.

You will also play a critical role in bridging field conditions with engineering design, working closely with Sales, On-Site Services, and Custom Solutions teams to ensure customer requirements, site constraints, and engineering considerations are fully understood and translated into practical, high-quality solutions. This includes supporting technical discussions, reviewing designs, and contributing to complex problem-solving activities where advanced engineering input is required.

Beyond customer engagement, the role contributes to internal capability development, acting as a technical resource for engineering and on-site teams. You will guide and support others in applying engineering best practices, interpreting system behaviour, and improving technical decision-making across the organisation.

The role also requires a strong focus on continuous learning and application expertise, with responsibility for developing knowledge across Swagelok’s core application areas—including analytical instrumentation, process instrumentation, mechanical systems, and gas distribution systems—while adapting to emerging markets such as hydrogen and clean energy. This ensures that your engineering advice remains relevant, forward-looking, and aligned with Swagelok’s global standards and strategic direction.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Advisory & Customer Support

  • Provide high-level engineering expertise to support customers in diagnosing system issues and identifying optimisation opportunities
  • Support Sales teams during discovery, qualification, and solution development by providing technical input and guidance
  • Participate in customer meetings, technical discussions, and troubleshooting activities as a subject matter expert
  • Review system designs, drawings, and specifications to ensure feasibility, safety, and technical accuracy

System Evaluation & Engineering Analysis

  • Conduct on-site evaluations of fluid systems across applications such as analytical instrumentation systems, process instrumentation systems, gas distribution systems, sampling systems, and high-pressure installations
  • Assess system performance, installation quality, and operational constraints to identify risks and areas for improvement
  • Perform engineering calculations including flow, pressure drop, time delay, and material compatibility to validate system performance
  • Use engineering tools and software to support system analysis, modelling, and component sizing
  • Size and select fluid system components and support the evaluation of specialised third-party equipment such as regulators, valves, coolers, and flowmeters

Engineering Reporting & Insights

  • Prepare, deliver, and present structured engineering evaluation reports—such as sampling system and grab sampling assessments—that clearly communicate findings, risks, engineering rationale, and prioritised recommendations
  • Translate field observations into clear and actionable engineering insights for both customers and internal stakeholders
  • Support the On-Site Services team and act as a subject matter expert by reviewing inspection and installation reports to ensure engineering context and system implications are fully understood
  • Validate field data and ensure engineering assumptions used in solution development are accurate and defensible

What We're Looking For

Essential:

  • Engineering degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical, Mechatronics, or related field
  • Minimum 3+ years’ experience working with fluid systems in a relevant industry
  • Experience conducting site visits and system evaluations
  • Strong capability in engineering calculations and product sizing
  • Experience preparing technical reports and presenting findings
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Ability to interpret P&IDs, technical drawings, and specifications
  • High level of computer literacy (engineering tools, MS Office, etc.)
  • Valid driver’s licence and willingness to travel

Desirable

  • Experience with Swagelok products or similar fluid system technologies
  • Exposure to sampling systems, analytical instrumentation, or high-pressure applications
  • Experience using engineering tools/software (e.g., AFT Arrow, sizing tools)
  • Knowledge of hydrogen systems or emerging energy applications
  • Experience mentoring or supporting others as a technical SME

Why Join Us

  • Be part of a trusted and globally recognised engineering brand
  • Work on technically challenging and meaningful projects across diverse industries
  • Join a collaborative and highly skilled Engineering Services team
  • Access structured training, global resources, and continuous development opportunities
  • Contribute to solutions that improve safety, reliability, and sustainability for customers
  • Build a long-term career with strong growth potential
