Job Description

The company is seeking a meticulous and experienced Field Architect to join the Jabali Towers site team. This is a hands-on, site-based role focused on translating design excellence into construction reality. The Field Architect will be the on-site custodian of the architectural design intent, responsible for the day-to-day inspection and quality control of all architectural works, from the building envelope to the finest interior details.

On-Site Design Integrity & Quality Assurance:

  • Serve as the primary on-site custodian of the architectural design intent, ensuring all works are executed in precise accordance with the approved drawings, specifications, and quality benchmarks.
  • Conduct rigorous daily inspections of all architectural works, including facade and curtain wall installation, waterproofing, blockwork, plastering, and all interior finishes (tiling, flooring, joinery, painting).
  • Implement and enforce the project's Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) program for all architectural components, managing the approval process for material samples and full-scale mock-ups.
  • Review and provide technical approval for contractor submittals, including shop drawings, method statements, and material data sheets for all architectural elements.
  • Proactively identify and resolve discrepancies between the design documents and site conditions, ensuring any necessary changes are properly documented and approved without compromising design quality.

Technical Coordination & Problem-Solving:

  • Interpret complex architectural drawings and details to provide clear guidance to the contractor's site team.
  • Liaise directly with the lead architectural consultant to manage and resolve technical queries (RFIs) in a timely manner.
  • Coordinate closely with the MEP and Structural field engineers to ensure the correct installation of service penetrations, in-wall/in-slab services, and partition set-outs relative to the structure.
  • Assist in maintaining accurate site records, including daily progress reports, inspection logs, and photographic evidence of the works.

Safety & Compliance:

  • Champion a culture of safety for all architectural works, with a particular focus on facade installation, scaffolding, and work in common areas and finished spaces.
  • Ensure all architectural installations are in full compliance with Kenyan building codes, local authority regulations, and international best practices.
  • Monitor contractor operations to ensure strict adherence to approved health and safety plans and procedures.

Requirements

Hard skills and experience:

  • Education: A bachelor's degree in Architecture from an internationally recognized university is essential.
  • Experience: A minimum of 10-15 years of direct, post-graduate experience as a site-based architect on large-scale construction projects. A proven track record on high-rise buildings with high-end finishes is mandatory.
  • Industry Background: Extensive hands-on experience working for major international main contractors, construction supervision consultants, or architectural firms with a strong site supervision presence is critical.
  • International Exposure: Demonstrable, hands-on international project experience in challenging construction environments is essential.
  • Technical Proficiency: Expert knowledge of building construction, with specialized expertise in facade systems (curtain walls, cladding), waterproofing details, and high-quality interior finishing. Must possess an exceptional ability to read and interpret detailed architectural drawings.
  • Software Proficiency: Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit is required for reviewing shop drawings. Experience with Bluebeam Revu or similar markup software is advantageous.

Soft skills:

  • Attention to Detail: A forensic level of attention to detail and an uncompromising commitment to quality. This is the single most important attribute for the role.
  • Problem-Solving: Strong analytical skills with the ability to provide swift, practical, and aesthetically-sensitive solutions to technical challenges that arise on site.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal, written, and graphic communication skills, capable of effectively conveying design requirements to contractors and liaising with senior designers.
  • Assertiveness: A firm and professional demeanor with the ability to enforce quality standards and reject non-compliant work when necessary.
  • Integrity: An unwavering commitment to professional integrity and ensuring the final built product is a true reflection of the design intent.
  • Ownership: A hands-on, proactive professional who takes full ownership of their inspection and supervision responsibilities and is driven by the pursuit of architectural excellence on site.
