Job Description

Pay Rate: $28.37 Hourly | Full Time | Shift Details: 8:00am - 4:30pm Monday - Friday

Weekly Earned Wage Access is an option for this position.

Job Purpose or Objective(s): The Field Archaeologist supports the Tribal Archaeologist in conducting cultural resource work to ensure Choctaw Nation projects comply with Tribal, federal, and state historic preservation laws, as well as Choctaw cultural ethics.


Primary Tasks:
1. Conduct archaeological fieldwork, including shovel testing, geospatial data collection (GPS), and soil profiling.
2. Help prepare cultural resource survey reports that meet federal and state standards.
3. Perform desktop reviews for Choctaw Nation projects and prepare documentation for submission to the Tribal Historic Preservation Officer (THPO).
4. Supervise Archaeological Technicians and Historic Resource Technicians (HRTs) during field and lab work.
5. Help design cultural resource surveys that meet compliance standards.
6. Participate in Section 106 consultations with federal agencies as a representative of the Choctaw Nation.
7. Conduct archaeological monitoring for ground-disturbing Tribal projects.
8. Process and catalog archaeological collections for long-term curation.
9. Perform other duties as may be assigned.


Required Education, Skills and Experience:
• Master’s degree in archaeology, anthropology, or a related field
• Knowledge of Choctaw history, culture, and archaeology
• Experience in general North American archaeology
• One (1) year of experience in archaeological fieldwork or cultural resource management
