About the role
As a Field Applications Engineer, you will be part of a cutting-edge international team that focuses on pre-sales technical support, as well as on-site installation and will work closely with the Enphase Product Engineering during all stages of product development.

What you will do

  • Sales & Field Support: Partner with Sales to drive new business in Japan by providing expert technical support, system design, installation, and commissioning for solar and storage systems.
  • Technical Training & Translation: Deliver on-site and remote product training for partners; prepare training materials and assist with Japanese translations.
  • Customer Advisory: Act as the primary technical resource for integrators and distributors, assisting on sales calls and recommending product applications.
  • Global Engineering Bridge: Translate Japan-specific market requirements and customer expectations directly to global Product Engineering, including hosting site visits.
  • Product Innovation: Identify new product applications and submit data-backed requests to Product Management for new products, testing, and samples.
  • Market Intelligence: Gather field insights on market potential, competitive products, and technological trends to inform global product roadmaps.
  • Cross-Functional Alignment: Keep global Sales, Engineering, Quality, and Manufacturing teams fully aligned on new product releases and specific quality/testing needs.
  • Compliance & Technical Specs: Ensure compliance with all local regulations, support New Product Introductions (NPI), and prepare technical specifications and drawings.

Who you are and what you bring

  • Education: B.S. or M.S. in Engineering (or equivalent experience)
  • Experience: 2+ years in an application engineering or technical role within the Japanese solar sector.
  • Language Skills: Fluency in both Japanese (JLPT N1 equivalent) and English (minimum business level).
  • Technical Expertise: Proven hands-on experience installing, commissioning, and troubleshooting solar and battery storage systems; an Electrical License is strongly preferred.
  • Market & Regulatory Knowledge: Deep understanding of Japanese government/product regulations, solar panels, inverters, and Balance of System (BOS) requirements; NPI (New Product Introduction) experience is a plus.
  • Design & Problem Solving: Proficiency in CAD design alongside a demonstrated ability to evaluate and resolve complex customer problems.
  • Communication & Presentation: Outstanding interpersonal skills with excellent technical writing, communication, and technical presentation abilities.
  • Soft Skills: Self-directed, results-driven, and capable of working effectively across all levels of the company.
  • Location & Travel: Must be based in the Tokyo area and willing/able to travel approximately 70% of the time (domestically).
