Role Purpose

Performs a variety of technical duties and activities as a part of the Applied Research and Development (AR&D) Glass Making team. Expected to grow through experience into role as consolidation/redraw expert for manufacture of Fiber products at Sullivan Park facility. The employee will initially be training alongside a current consolidation/redraw technician. Through this training the employee will eventually become proficient in the process equipment operation, maintenance, and process/profile development, running production ware with rigorous controls while maintaining the flexibility to meet the varied needs of development and research projects

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate full functionality of process equipment to make optical fiber preforms.
  • Control all aspects of glass making process including flame-working, setup, operation, run completion and data entry.
  • Expected to perform normal maintenance and initial troubleshooting of equipment.
  • Perform modifications to configuration of equipment as required by process.
  • Will be trained in consolidation recipe creation and tuning from measured results.

Experiences/Education - Required

  • Associates Degree in a technical field or strong Math/Science background and/or experiences
  • 2+ years experience in technician, process or manufacturing roles.
  • Willingness to learn new skills and gain a deeper understanding of processes
  • Attention to fine detail and ability to follow complex, multi-step instructions.
  • Ability to develop a strong fundamental understating of glass making process.
  • Mechanical aptitude and ability to function in a "hands-on" role.
  • Strong technical communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Computer literacy and the ability to use tools within MicroSoft Excel, Word and databases.
  • Technical problem solving experience, critical thinking, and data-based decision making skills.
  • Follows previously defined procedures. Proposes and implements basic solutions to routine problems

Experiences/Education - Desired

  • Chemistry basics, safe handling of chemicals.
  • Documentation and/or technical report writing experience
  • Electronics Control systems understanding a plus.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing/production operations and scheduling requirements.
  • Familiarity with glass making equipment or previous experience with glass making processes.

The range for this position is $58,411.00 - $80,316.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
