Job Requirements:
Valid Indiana teaching license appropriate for teaching students in grades 9�12 required. Bachelor's degree required. Experience working with at-risk students, credit-deficient students, computer-based instruction, credit recovery, or alternative education programming is preferred. Upon offer, the applicant must successfully complete and clear a drug screen and all Indiana background check requirements for school personnel as required by state law.

The Alternative Education Teacher is responsible for providing instruction, supervision, academic support, and progress monitoring for students enrolled in the Frankfort Alternative Academy.

The academy provides a structured, computer-based educational setting for students who benefit from an alternative to the traditional school schedule. Students attend either a morning or afternoon session and are expected to attend each day that school is in session. Regular sessions are held from 8:00�11:00 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.�2:30 p.m., with adjusted schedules on Wednesdays and two-hour delay days.

Instruction is delivered primarily through the Subject.com learning platform. Students watch instructional lessons, take notes, complete assignments, and take assessments using a school-issued computer or laptop. The teacher will provide direct assistance, tutoring, clarification, encouragement, and intervention as students work toward course completion and graduation requirements.

The teacher will support students completing regular courses and credit-recovery courses. Credit-deficient students may be assigned credit-recovery coursework that allows them to demonstrate prior knowledge and test out of certain topics or units while completing the remaining course requirements.

Responsibilities include monitoring daily attendance, engagement, course progress, grades, and credit completion; helping students establish academic goals; maintaining an orderly and productive learning environment; providing individualized assistance; communicating with families, counselors, teachers, and administrators; promoting academic integrity; and ensuring students remain focused and actively engaged in their coursework.

The Alternative Education Teacher will also reinforce expectations regarding attendance, punctuality, daily participation, appropriate technology use, and academic honesty. The teacher will address incidents of cheating, plagiarism, or unauthorized use of artificial intelligence in accordance with school and program expectations.

Job Qualifications:
Applicant must demonstrate the ability to:

• Support students in grades 9�12 who have diverse academic, behavioral, attendance, and social-emotional needs.
• Provide effective instruction and academic support within an alternative education setting.
• Facilitate computer-based and online learning while providing meaningful teacher assistance.
• Monitor student participation, course progress, assessment performance, and credit completion.
• Assist credit-deficient students in developing realistic plans for completing graduation requirements.
• Motivate students to attend regularly, arrive on time, remain focused, and complete assigned coursework.
• Differentiate support based on individual student needs and levels of academic progress.
• Establish and maintain clear expectations for behavior, academic integrity, technology use, and productivity.
• Identify students who need additional instruction, intervention, tutoring, or support.
• Communicate regularly and professionally with students, families, teachers, counselors, administrators, and support staff.
• Maintain accurate attendance, grade, course-completion, and progress-monitoring records.
• Use student performance data to guide interventions and communicate progress.
• Maintain confidentiality and exercise sound professional judgment.
• Work collaboratively with the Frankfort High School administration, counseling department, special education staff, and classroom teachers.
• Serve as a dependable, patient, flexible, and positive member of the Frankfort High School staff.
