Job Description

Two positions-are being sought -

• Junior level thoracic oncologist-Approximately 80% of time clinical care and coordination, 20% research.

This position would be at 2 sites, one of which would be. a Providence Brown University Health (BUH) site including either Rhode Island

Hospital or the Miriam Hospital, and a second site in one of BUH's Massachusetts sites including Foxboro, St.

Annes (Fall River) or Morton Hospital (Taunton). Encourage and coordinate translational research among

basic scientists and clinicians at the BUH hospitals and Brown University. Active participation in cooperative

group, pharmaceutical industry and investigator-initiated clinical trials is required.

• More experience thoracic oncologist -Approximately 60% of time clinical care and coordination, 40% .clinical

and translational research.) This position would be in at least 2 sites including a Providence and one of

BUH's Massachusetts sites including Foxboro, St. Annes (Fall River) or Morton Hospital (Taunton). Encourage

and coordinate translational research among basic scientists and clinicians at the hospitals and Brown

University. Active participation in cooperative groups, pharmaceutical industry and investigator-initiated

clinical trials is required .

Teaching and administrative responsibilities to the department and programs. The applicant will be involved in education and training in thoracic oncology at Brown University Health and Brown University.

Teaching:

The incumbent will be expected to participate in the teaching programs of the Division of Hematology/Oncology at the

Rhode Island and Miriam Hospitals, which include students, medical residents and oncology fellows.

Research:

The candidate will be expected to participate in clinical and translational research at the Brown University Health Cancer

Institute and Brown University and expand collaborations between clinical and basic researchers. The incumbent will

also be expected to participate on a national level in cooperative group research planning. The senior position, at the

Associate Professor level, will be encouraged to establish an independent, investigative program in clinical or basic

research.

Patient Care:

The junior candidate will be expected to do approximatel y 7-8 half0day clinics per week.

The senior candidate will be expected to do approximately 5-6 half-day clinics per week.

Service Responsibilities

The candidates will participate in the solid tumor weekend-call rotation (approximately 1 of every 8 weekends).

Qualifications

Requirements

Minimum requirements include board certification or board eligibility in oncology, experience in clinical, translational

and/or basic research, excellence in patient care and teaching, and a commitment to scholarly participation in the

research programs of The Warren Alpert Medical School. Candidates at the Associate Professor level must have a

national or emerging reputation of excellence in lung cancer.
