Job Description

Support and execute contracts for sales of feed commodities to DFA farmer owners in specified areas. Coordinate network of outside sales staff and commodities team to achieve sales goals and create farmer owner value.

Location This position will be based in Syracuse, NY. The area coverage will be primarily the Northeast territory.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Market commodities to DFA farmer owners in accordance with individual and team margin and sales goals.
  • Identify and explore new vendor opportunities.
  • Negotiate purchases with vendors.
  • Call current and potential farmer owners to share promotional offers and garner additional sales opportunities.
  • Schedule and order shipments to farmer owners based on their orders.
  • Build relationships with members by performing on-farm visits.
  • Communicate with vendors daily to build relationships and obtain current information.
  • Provide farmer owners and staff with guidance and direction on commodities markets.
  • Exhibit the values and ethics of Dairy Farmers of America through honesty, discretion, and sound judgment.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in agriculture business, marketing, or related field
  • 3 years of commodity trading experience, including vendor negotiation responsibilities
  • May be required to obtain and maintain other certifications and/or licenses for continued employment

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of company computer systems, particularly Microsoft Office Suite and Salesforce
  • Knowledge of commodity transportation and logistics
  • Knowledge of risk management tools
  • Knowledge of dairy production methods and procedures
  • Knowledge of DFA cooperative model
  • Skill in critical thinking, analysis, mathematical calculations, and statistical evaluations
  • Able to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Able to multi-task and problem solve
  • Able to work with accuracy and attention to detail
  • Able to prioritize and meet deadlines
  • Able to work in collaboration effectively and foster good teamwork
  • Able to take initiative in performing job and seek increased responsibilities
  • Able to handle challenging or conflict situations with tact and professionalism
  • Able to elicit cooperation from variety of sources, including upper management, plant locations, and others
  • Able to perform task and duties without constant supervision
  • Must be able to read, write and speak English

Travel 25% - 50%

Pay Range $65000 - $85000 base. Eligible for the DFA Farm Supplies bonus program - additional details shared during interview process.
