Title: Federal Technical Writer

Location: Remote / Washington, DC

Schedule: Full-time, Monday-Friday, 8:30 AM-5:00 PM EDT

Salary: $90,000-$110,000 annually

ROLE

KMRG, LLC (KMRG) is a federal services company that hires talented professionals to support Government agencies and the communities they serve. We are hiring a Federal Technical Writer to support the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA). In this role, you will develop, edit, and standardize reports, policies, procedures, and other internal and external communications while working with subject matter experts to ensure technical accuracy, clarity, consistency, and alignment with federal and TIGTA writing standards.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Technical Writing & Report Development

  • Draft, edit, format, and finalize TIGTA reports, memoranda, policy documents, and related written products
  • Review documents for clarity, organization, grammar, readability, plain language, and TIGTA style requirements
  • Restructure content, strengthen transitions, verify citations, and improve consistency across complex documents
  • Translate technical and operational information into clear written products for internal and external audiences
  • Coordinate with subject matter experts to gather information, resolve questions, and incorporate technical feedback
  • Prepare tracked-changes edits, editorial comments, and final versions ready for TIGTA review and approval

Policy, Procedures & Guidance Development

  • Draft, revise, and update internal policies, procedures, manuals, and guidance documents
  • Develop structured outlines and organize source material into clear, consistent, usable documentation
  • Align documents with TIGTA operational practices, applicable federal requirements, and agency style guidance
  • Incorporate stakeholder and SME feedback throughout document review and approval cycles
  • Maintain consistency in terminology, structure, formatting, and presentation across related documents

Editorial Quality Assurance & Standardization

  • Conduct proofreading, formatting verification, citation reviews, and editorial quality-control checks
  • Identify unclear language, inconsistencies, and formatting issues and recommend corrective revisions
  • Develop and maintain document templates, writing guidance, formatting standards, and sample documents
  • Support consistent application of TIGTA writing, editorial, and document-presentation standards
  • Maintain version control and organized electronic document files throughout development and review

Project Coordination & Deliverables

  • Participate in kickoff and recurring project meetings with TIGTA stakeholders
  • Maintain project schedules, milestones, and document-delivery timelines as assigned
  • Produce polished deliverables that meet TIGTA quality, accuracy, formatting, and schedule expectations

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

  • At least 8 years of specialized experience in writing, editing, and federal document development
  • Demonstrated experience developing and editing federal reports, policies, procedures, guidance, or comparable technical documents
  • Education in English, Journalism, or Communications

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES & SKILLS

  • Strong technical writing, editing, proofreading, and document-development skills
  • Knowledge of federal plain-language, editorial, formatting, and citation practices
  • Experience working with subject matter experts to translate technical or operational content into clear written guidance
  • Proficiency with document formatting, tracked changes, editorial comments, templates, and version-controlled document workflows
  • Strong ability to work independently while managing multiple document assignments and review deadlines

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

  • Experience supporting federal agencies with report, policy, procedure, or communications development
  • Experience applying federal plain-language standards and agency-specific style guidance
  • Experience developing document templates, editorial standards, or writing guidance
  • Experience coordinating document development with Government subject matter experts and leadership

  • Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA), 901 D Street SW, Washington, DC 20024

TELEWORK

  • Primarily off-site/remote; occasional on-site support at TIGTA's Washington, DC location as needed

SECURITY / ACCESS

  • U.S. citizen or permanent resident
  • Current, favorably adjudicated Tier 2 Moderate Risk Public Trust investigation or higher
  • Ability to successfully complete TIGTA security, suitability, tax-compliance, and access requirements
  • Ability to complete required cybersecurity, privacy, disclosure, and information-security training
