Job Description

Every day, millions of Australians connect, work, stream, and stay in touch on the Optus network. When it works seamlessly, it’s easy to take for granted. But behind it is a team making thousands of decisions every day - decisions that keep people, businesses and communities connected.

Optus Enterprise & Business is seeking an experienced Federal Government Operations Manager to provide technical and people leadership across our Professional Services Engineering function. This is a strategic leadership role responsible for managing a high-performing team of ICT professionals, delivering complex project-based engineering services, and driving successful outcomes for Federal Government customers.

As the Federal PS Engineering Manager, you will lead a regional team of 15+ engineers across ACT and other states, ensuring the successful delivery of Professional Services projects while maintaining a strong focus on customer outcomes, commercial performance, security compliance, and continuous improvement.

Due to the nature of our Federal Government customers, applicants must be Australian Citizens and either hold a current NV1 AGSVA Security Clearance or have submitted an NV1 clearance application within the recent months.

What You’ll Do

  • Manage, mentor and develop a regional team of 15+ ICT engineering professionals, driving engagement, performance, certifications, compliance, and a positive team culture.
  • Ensure successful delivery of Professional Services projects to scope, schedule, budget, security, and quality standards while driving customer satisfaction and NPS results.
  • Manage resource planning, forecasting, utilisation, and reporting to maintain billable and productive utilisation above 80% and achieve business objectives.
  • Contribute to business cases and solution development, and collaborate with stakeholders to solve business and technology challenges.
  • Identify and implement automation opportunities, improve delivery processes, and contribute to the development of new services, offers, and innovative solutions.
  • Partner with customers, vendors, and internal teams while promoting Optus' market leadership through industry engagement, thought leadership, events, and strategic collaboration.

What You Bring

  • Minimum 8 years' experience in engineering, professional services, or technical operations leadership roles.
  • Extensive technical expertise across networking, voice, wireless, security, and infrastructure solutions within medium to large enterprise environments.
  • Proven experience delivering complex ICT projects, from solution design through to implementation and ongoing support.
  • Strong technical pre-sales capability, with experience engaging customers, developing solutions, and supporting new business opportunities.
  • Broad multi-vendor technology experience across the design, deployment, and support of infrastructure solutions.
  • Formal management qualifications, with demonstrated success in leading teams, managing stakeholders, and driving business outcomes.

The good stuff….

  • Competitive remuneration, plus $80 monthly credit, 25% off Optus products and exclusive shopping discounts with our retail partners — making everyday life a little more affordable. Genuine Flexibility - work three days in the office, two days from wherever works best for you.
  • Great leave policies, including additional 'Connected’ days to focus on culture, family, health, community, or whatever matters most to you.
  • Inclusive, carer-neutral paid Parental Leave of up to 16 weeks, because family comes first.
  • Build meaningful connections through employee-led networks and diversity initiatives including Culture Connect, Elevate Women, Disability Network and Express Yourself (LGBTQIA+).
  • Your wellbeing matters, so we offer with free counselling and support services, available 24/7 in-person, by phone, SMS, or video

Not every box ticked?

Apply anyway. We believe the right mindset matter more than a perfect CV. We’ll back you to grow from there.
