Job Description

Job Purpose

The Tailor plays a key role in delivering the CHANEL Ready-to-Wear experience by ensuring every garment achieves the Perfect Fit while preserving the Maison's craftsmanship, silhouette and creative intent.

This role is responsible for executing high-quality alterations and repairs that meet CHANEL standards of excellence, contributing to an exceptional client experience through precision, craftsmanship, efficiency and attention to detail. Working in close collaboration with the Boutique team, the Tailor supports the Ready-to-Wear business by providing alterations that reinforce client satisfaction, loyalty and confidence in the Maison.

Key Responsibilities

Alteration Excellence

  • Perform alterations and repairs on Ready-to-Wear garments while preserving the original design, construction, silhouette and creative vision of each piece.
  • Execute alterations on both tailored and soft construction garments with the highest standards of craftsmanship, precision and discretion.
  • Review alteration requests and technical instructions to fully understand the client's needs before beginning any work.
  • Organize alteration work according to garment construction, technical specifications and agreed delivery timelines.
  • Dismantle, alter, reconstruct and finish garments while maintaining CHANEL quality standards.
  • Conduct quality inspections before returning garments, ensuring impeccable finishing, functionality and presentation.
  • Repair or replace garment components, including zippers, buttons, linings, pockets and other trims when required.

Client Experience

  • Support fitting sessions alongside the Fashion Advisors or designated fitting specialist when required.
  • Participate in client fittings to ensure alterations deliver the expected fit and comfort.
  • Contribute to creating a seamless luxury after-sales experience through accurate execution and timely delivery of alterations.
  • Ensure all alterations reflect the client's expectations while maintaining the integrity of the CHANEL design.

Operational Excellence

  • Complete alterations within established service level agreements and agreed lead times.
  • Maintain accurate alteration documentation and ensure all requests are properly recorded.
  • Prioritize workload effectively to support boutique business needs and peak activity periods.
  • Ensure all sewing machines, equipment and tools are properly maintained and report maintenance requirements when necessary.
  • Maintain an organized, clean and safe alteration workspace in accordance with boutique standards.

Collaboration

  • Build strong partnerships with Boutique Management, Fashion Advisors and the broader boutique team to support the Ready-to-Wear business.
  • Participate in boutique meetings, product trainings and Ready-to-Wear collections briefings.
  • Share technical knowledge and best practices with colleagues to promote continuous learning.
  • Provide support to fellow Tailors during periods of high workload when required.
  • Demonstrate openness to coaching and actively seek opportunities for continuous improvement.

Candidate Profile

Education

  • Technical education in Tailoring, Fashion Design, Garment Construction or a related discipline, or equivalent professional apprenticeship.

Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a professional Tailor.
  • Proven experience performing alterations on luxury Ready-to-Wear garments.
  • Previous experience within a luxury fashion or premium retail environment is highly desirable.

Technical Knowledge

  • Advanced knowledge of garment construction, tailoring techniques and couture finishing.
  • Strong understanding of woven fabrics, delicate materials and garment structure.
  • Expertise in alteration techniques for jackets, trousers, skirts, dresses and other Ready-to-Wear categories.
  • Proficiency in operating industrial sewing machines and tailoring equipment.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to deliver invisible, high-quality alterations.
