Brown & Brown is seeing a Farm & Ranch Underwriter to join our growing team in Greensboro, NC!

As a Farm & Ranch Underwriter, you will be responsible for evaluating, selecting, pricing, and managing a profitable portfolio of farm, ranch, and rural property risks. This role requires strong analytical skills, sound underwriting judgment, and the ability to build lasting relationships with agency partners while delivering exceptional customer service.

The ideal candidate has experience underwriting agricultural and rural property exposures, understands farm operations and associated liability risks, and thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.

How You Will Contribute:

  • Evaluate, underwrite, accept, modify, or decline new and renewal Farm & Ranch business in accordance with company underwriting guidelines and authority.

  • Analyze applications, loss history, inspections, financial information, and supporting documentation to determine risk acceptability and appropriate pricing.

  • Underwrite a broad range of agricultural risks, including farm dwellings, outbuildings, barns, equipment, livestock, crops, liability exposures, and related operations.

  • Determine appropriate coverage, policy terms, endorsements, deductibles, and pricing based on individual risk characteristics.

  • Manage an assigned renewal book while maintaining profitability, retention, and growth objectives.

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with retail agents by providing responsive underwriting support and technical expertise.

  • Collaborate with leadership on underwriting strategies, product enhancements, and portfolio management initiatives.

  • Maintain accurate underwriting documentation and ensure compliance with company guidelines, regulatory requirements, and carrier standards.

  • Monitor market trends, emerging agricultural risks, and industry developments to support sound underwriting decisions.

  • Assist with mentoring and training less experienced underwriting staff as needed.

Skills & Experience to Be Successful:

  • Bachelor's degree preferred or equivalent combination of education and underwriting experience.

  • 3+ years of commercial property/casualty underwriting experience, with Farm & Ranch or Agricultural underwriting experience strongly preferred.

  • Strong knowledge of farm, ranch, agribusiness, rural property, and related liability exposures.

  • Excellent analytical, decision-making, negotiation, and risk assessment skills.

  • Ability to interpret underwriting guidelines, policy forms, inspections, and loss information.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with a customer-focused approach.

  • Ability to prioritize multiple deadlines while maintaining exceptional attention to detail.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and agency management or underwriting systems.

  • Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment.

  • Demonstrated commitment to delivering exceptional service to internal and external partners.
