Vibrant Futures is a free early intervention, non-clinical Family Mental Health Support Service (FMHSS) provided by the Australian Government Department of Social Services. Role Purpose

The Family Support Worker will provide flexible support to children, young people and their families or carers to improve their emotional health and wellbeing. The successful applicant will provide a support service that assists and empowers vulnerable families to develop capabilities and access to services. Thefocus will be to strengthen protective factors to enable children and young people to reach long term positive mental health and wellbeing outcomes.

• To build resilience and enhance the wellbeing of young people who are at risk of or showing early signs of mental health difficulties.
• Provide evidence informed short-term and long-term early intervention support based on a Family Action Plan, specifically for children and young people up to the age of 18, and their families.
• Provide information on services available, including referral options and assist families access these services.
• Assist children, young people and families using an outreach model and where appropriate link them to group work that supports early intervention programs or services.
• Encourage families/carers involvement in the development strategies which enhance choice, dignity, and independence of the person under families/carers
• To promote the dignity and rights of families and carers of people with a mental health issue, both within the service and in the wider community.

• Provide services in accordance with relevant service guidelines and utilise evidence-based or evidence-informed practice
• Assist families and carers to support young people at risk of, or showing early signs of, mental illness.
• Provide a person-centered care approach and guidance in a broad range of delivery methods, including outreach, that support the needs of each young person and their family.
• Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
• Plan, promote, facilitate and evaluate the delivery of activities and events that promote mental health education and community development.
• Identify, develop and maintain links with relevant service providers, carers and consumer groups that will assist families to access and negotiate the relevant agencies as well as improve the outcomes for consumers.
• Identify and address practical and systemic barriers to accessing services related to the geography or the needs of special groups of carers (with special regard to First Nations people, people from Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Backgrounds (CALD), trauma, intergenerational experiences, financial, transport, etc).
• Participate in case review meetings and multi-disciplinary team meetings to ensure appropriate service pathway and service delivery.
• Promote and participate in regular supervision and review and contribute to the planning, development, review services ensuring a commitment to quality and safety standards.
• Attend and participate in team meetings, training and professional development activities.
• Maintain records, databases and reports concerning activities undertaken with young people and their families in accordance with requirements.
• Adhere to Stride’s policies and procedures including local procedures which apply when supporting family and carers of the community.
• Demonstrate knowledge of ethical standards and show awareness of available support in areas such as mandatory reporting of abuse, confidentiality, managing risk (including managing aggressive clients), safety issues and the underpinning legislative requirements in Queensland.
• Work with the leadership team to establish and maintain activities that support continuous program improvement.
• Other duties relevant to the position of Family Support Worker as required or directed by your supervisor.

Requirements:

• Diploma or Cert IV or higher in mental health or community services related discipline.
• Must be eligible to apply/currently hold a Blue Card
• Must hold/be willing to apply for NDIS worker screening clearance
• Current Driver's license

Desirable:

• Tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Psychology or similar.
• Previous experience in a Support Worker, or related, role.
• Previous experience working in a mental health service setting
• In- depth understanding of issues pertaining to mental illness/or disabilities and the impact on individuals, families and communities.
• Demonstrated experience or knowledge in working with children, young people and families.
• Demonstrated experience in networking and building positive working relationships with various stakeholders.
• Applicants must have an understanding and knowledge of the relevant legislation.
• The ability to work autonomously, under supervision and as part of a team.
• To be successful, you’ll require excellent negotiation, problem solving and decision-making skills, as well as the ability to work within timeframes, meet deadlines, and work in challenging situations.
• Competency in administration, documentation, reporting and intermediate computer skills in Microsoft Office.
