What you will do:

As a Family Support Worker, you will play a vital role in supporting Child Protective Investigators, which includes coordinating and providing transportation for families. You'll be helping families access the services they need to remain safe, stable, and self‑sufficient. Additionally, you will assist investigators in maintaining a caseload of families receiving social services.

How you will make an impact

  • Assist investigators in maintaining caseload of families receiving social services.
  • Assist clients in completing forms for services and benefits.
  • Assist individuals and/or families in providing and arranging for social, medical, education, employment and training, day care services and housing.
  • Provide materials to individuals and/or families about nutrition, infant development and parenting skills.
  • Ensure immunizations and well-baby visits are received in a timely manner.
  • Assist individuals and/or families in learning how to access community services.
  • Work with family to develop family support plan.
  • Conduct interviews to collect household data in order to assist household members.
  • Coordinate necessary transportation for families.
  • Maintain and updates client files.
  • Participate in trainings
  • Make referrals for emergency ongoing services within the agency and to other agencies.
  • Maintain liaison with community agencies and service organizations in order to determine the results of services rendered to individual clients.
  • Provide phone and client contact support.
  • Perform related work as required.
  • Provides phone and client contact support. This employee functions on an independent level while performing a variety of duties, which require initiative and sound judgment.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
  • Must possess operational private vehicle for use in the performance of daily work activities. Selected applicants are required to provide proof of vehicle registration and documentation of the appropriate insurance coverage.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of basic childcare practices.
  • Knowledge of elderly care practices.
  • Knowledge of principles and techniques of effective communication.
  • Knowledge of community resources.
  • Knowledge of program objectives.
  • Knowledge of basic arithmetic.
  • Skill in basic counseling techniques.
  • Ability to assist clients in accessing community resource services.
  • Ability to understand and apply the methods and practices used in medical, nursing, nutrition, child development or childcare settings.
  • Ability to interview clients to identify needs.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work activities.
  • Ability to establish and maintain working relationship with others.

What is OPS employment?

OPS employment is a temporary employer/employee relationship used for accomplishing short term or intermittent tasks. OPS employees are at-will employees and are subject to actions such as pay changes, changes to work assignment, and terminations at the pleasure of the agency head or designee.

OPS employees do not serve probationary periods or become permanent in their positions because they serve at the pleasure of the agency head.
