We are currently looking for a Family Support Bank Therapist/Counsellor to join our team.

As part of Naomi and Jack's Family Support Team, you will be providing individual counselling sessions to adults and young people in complex situations. With a recognised counselling or psychotherapy qualification and membership with BACP, UKCP or similar, you must have at least two years’ experience of working with adults and young people experiencing loss and bereavement and ideally a good knowledge of the impact of disability and life limiting diagnosis on a family. We are currently not able to offer an interview to newly qualified candidates for this role.

The Family Support team is made up of Counsellors, Play Therapy and Creative Arts and Counselling, Art Therapy, Social Work, Family Support Work and pastoral support.

Our team of professional counsellors offer support to families from the point of referral to bereavement and beyond, as a Family Support Bank Therapist/Counsellor, your support will be tailored to the very specific needs of the individual. You will provide expert counselling services and ideally will have experience in supporting young people and adults including regular reviews and there is the potential to be involved in running therapeutic groups for parents and young people at times.

Key Responsibilities

  • To have an understanding of, and response to, the needs of children, young adults and families at a time of uncertainty and crisis.
  • To hold a complex case load and carry out a planned program of therapeutic intervention.
  • To provide group and direct work with children as well as young people.
  • To work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and to promote effective communication regarding psycho-social information within the care team.
  • To contribute towards the planning and delivery of our annual remembering events as required.
  • To promote the safeguarding and welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults.
  • To maintain records and ensure that all record keeping is in accordance with the policy of the organisation.
  • To provide statistics/evaluations on activities undertaken.
  • To maintain confidentiality of each child, young adult and family at all times.
  • To maintain own professional development and training opportunities. including personal supervision as agreed with line manager. Supervision to be provided in house.
  • The role demands excellent communication skills, adaptability, compassion and self-motivation, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • We would expect you to be working with a minimum of 2-3 clients a week. Currently services are provided face to face, online and by phone and you will need to be able to locate yourself at our hospice for all counselling work.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

Hourly rate: £17.85 per hour

Holiday Pay: 12.07% of hours worked

Employment Status Zero-hours contract. No guaranteed minimum hours. Work offered as needed. You can accept or decline work based on your availability.
