Job Description

Do you want to help young parents feel confident, connected and capable in their parenting?

We’re looking for a Family Practitioner who can build genuine relationships with young parents, in particular with young fathers—supporting them to recognise their strengths and support them to make a positive difference in their children’s lives.

Whilst this role works with the whole family the team is excited to welcome a new member who is keen to work alongside young dads—often at a pivotal point in their lives—to strengthen parenting skills, improve wellbeing, navigate challenges and build safer, more secure relationships with their children and families through the development and delivery of our Young Dad’s Squad.

With manageable caseloads, a long-term relational approach and support from specialists across housing, education, employment and peer support, you can stay alongside families and help create change that lasts and have a positive influence on young fathers through the delivery of the Young Dad’s Squad.

YFS is a diverse and inclusive organisation—and a genuinely great place to work. Our integrated service model means you’ll collaborate with teams across youth programs, family services, housing, and legal support to deliver the best outcomes for young families.

About the job

Role location: Slacks Creek

Role type: Permanent Full-time

Pay range: $105,909 - $110,705 a year based on experience, with salary packaging exempt from Fringe Benefits Tax available

In this role you will:

  • Engage with young families, including dads who may be unsure about services, and build trust through consistency, curiosity and a non-judgemental approach.
  • Work alongside young families on goals that matter to them—from parenting confidence and wellbeing to stronger relationships, practical stability and connection with community.
  • Keep children’s safety and development at the centre while partnering with both parents and coordinating support across the family’s wider network.
  • Provide flexible, practical support across office, community and home-based settings, adapting your approach to each father and family.

About you:

Aside from meeting the key capabilities outlined in the related role description available from the pathway below, you’ll bring a genuine commitment to father-inclusive practice and the flexibility to engage each family in a way that is safe, respectful and culturally responsive.

You’ll be a great fit if:

  • You connect well with young parents and can engage people who may feel judged, overlooked or reluctant to seek support.
  • You see young parents as individuals with strengths, goals and potential.
  • You bring case management, coaching and or group facilitation experience with vulnerable families and can combine direct work with fathers with a strong whole-of-family and child focus.
  • You understand Child Protection and Domestic and Family Violence, can assess risk and deliver interventions that support safety, accountability and wellbeing. Completion of the Safe and Together Model is highly desirable.
  • You use strengths-based, trauma-informed and culturally responsive practice, and understand adverse childhood experiences (ACEs), child development and the impacts of trauma.
  • You are practical, creative and persistent, and you’re comfortable meeting fathers and families where they are—both literally and professionally.
