Family Mentor

• Maximum Term till 30 June 2027

• 56 hours per fortnight

• Based in Carnarvon

ABOUT THE ROLE

Target 120 is an initiative that aims to work with at risk and recidivist young people and their families to reduce offending behaviour, thereby contributing to a long-term vision of creating safer and more connected communities.

The Family Mentor will work in partnership with the Target 120 Team consisting of the Team Leader and Youth Mentor. Family Mentor will engage and support families of Target 120 youth within their home and/or community to explore and understand family aspirations to develop Integrated Family Plans, assist in achieving family goals and work towards achieving outcomes for both the family
and youth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build and establish relationships with Target 120 families to develop family goals to be included in Integrated Family Support Plans.
  • Provide intensive in home and community support to build the capability of families to support and promote practical daily routine and stability, develop skills, and link to services to achieve family goals.
  • Work collaboratively and effectively with Target 120 team and key community stakeholders to understand and support family’s needs.

About You

The successful candidate will be highly organised and have strong communication skills together with the following:

  • Relevant qualifications and/or experience working with the target group.
  • A knowledge and sensitivity to the barriers that may prevent families and young
    people at risk from achieving their full potential.
  • The capacity to manage a case load and implement individually tailored plans to
    address barriers.
  • Sound organisational skills, including the ability to plan, prioritise and meet
    deadlines.
  • The ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Intermediate/proficient level of IT and Administrative skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and written.
  • Effective interpersonal and relationship building skills.
  • Act with integrity in all organisational activities and maintain confidentiality.

Role requirements

  • Able to work across other Ngala sites as required.
  • Possession of a current National Police Certificate (obtained within the last 6 months).
  • Possession of current WA driver’s licence.
  • Possession of a Working with Children Check Clearance.

ACCEPTANCE
