Job Description

The Family Medicine Residency Program Faculty member provides support to the Family Medicine Associate Program Director to ensure the quality of the educational experience for the residents. The Faculty are the expert competency evaluators who work closely with the Program Director and Associate Program Director, who assist in developing and implementing the evaluation system, and who teach and advise residents.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Responsible for working with the Family Medicine Residency Associate Program Director to assure that the mission and vision of CommuniCare is communicated and practiced by the Residents.

2. Assist with the recruitment, interviewing, selection, matching, and onboarding of residents for the residency program.

3. Assist the program director with compliance with the requirements for accreditation by the relevant accrediting agencies, including site visits, etc.

4. Supervise, evaluate and observe residents in the continuity clinic. Ensure the quality of care provided by residents in the program is of the highest caliber, and that lapses in quality are appropriately investigated, resolved, and used to improve processes and education.

5. Advise residents with respect to their career and educational goals.

6. Work with other faculty to ensure continuous uninterrupted coverage of the resident continuity clinic.

7. Participate in the Residency Advisory Committee, Clinical Competency Committee, and Program Review Committee and other committees as assigned. Provide didactic sessions for residents each month as assigned by Program Director.

8. Examines, diagnoses, treats and/or refers patients for appropriate specialty care services and any other ancillary services that are appropriate for patient’s management and care. Prescribes pharmaceuticals and treatment regimens as appropriate to assessed medical conditions.

9. Reviews PAQ’s (lab and x-ray reports) and clinical task boxes on a timely basis and make medical management decisions appropriately.

10. Maintains appropriate productivity standards of specialty as established by the Center; maintains appropriate and efficient patient flow and minimize schedule changes and absences.

11. Addresses the daily brief at all patient visits to attain the highest compliance rates as indicated by UDS and HEDIS clinical measures, which are tracked daily on the dash boards.

12. Provides excellent internal/external customer service via telephone, telemedicine, fax or face-to-face contact to assist patients with their health care needs.

13. Takes call after hours and on weekends on a rotation basis with other providers and responds appropriately and on a timely manner to after hour calls.

14. Follows established departmental and clinic policies, procedures, and objectives; continuous quality improvements objectives and safety, environmental, and/or infection control standards.

15. Performs other related duties as assigned.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

M.D. or D.O. degree from an accredited U.S. Medical School (Osteopathic highly preferred)

Must possess a current unrestricted license to practice Medicine in the State of Texas

Board certification in Family Medicine or participating in activities similar to Family Medicine maintenance of certification as approved by the Review Committee

Annual continuing medical education as required by Board specialty

Current DEA, and other such certificates to legally operate as a practitioner in the State of Texas

Hospital privileges at designated area hospitals if required for specialty

Excellent communication skills in English

Experience in faculty of residency program preferred

Strong general computer and organizational skills

Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS), Instructor-Led by American Heart Association

REQUIRED PHYSICAL AND MENTAL ACTIVITIES AND REQUIREMENTS:

Finger Dexterity: Using fingers to make small movements such as typing or picking up small objects. Normal fine and gross motor control of fingers and hands.

Talking: Frequently conveying detailed or important instructions or ideas accurately, clearly, or quickly.

Hearing: Able to hear average or normal conversations and receive ordinary information; hear whispered voice at five (5) feet.

Repetitive Motions: Frequently and regularly using the wrists, hands, and fingers.

Visual: Visual acuity necessary for the proper evaluation of a patient and to prepare or inspect documents or other materials. Ability to accurately view computer monitors

Physical: Sitting 20-30% of time and standing, walking 70-80% of time. Lift up to 25 lbs; push and pull up to 45 lbs. Able to bend at the waist, twist and turn along axial plane.
