Family Domestic Violence Counsellor

Start: ASAP - 30/06/2026 - 76hours per fortnight

Level 5

Key Objectives:

• To offer compassionate, client-centered counselling services to individuals, families, and children affected by family and domestic violence (FDV), helping them heal, regain

control and navigate their trauma.

• To increase the capacity of those who have experienced domestic and family violence to live safely and independently in the community.

• To have knowledge and experience of working with women who have/or are experiencing family and domestic violence

• Coordinate the facilitation of therapeutic group counselling programs that integrates with Indigo Junction suite of FDV services to achieve positive outcomes for clients.

• To support women and their families who have experienced trauma to heal through the delivery of recognised trauma-informed, therapeutic responses.

• To ensure clients are safe, support and increase their knowledge and confidence to reduce the likelihood of future crises.

• To work collaboratively with a range of agencies and Indigo Junction services to provide comprehensive, wraparound support for women and their families.

Essential:

Qualifications and/or training and/or licenses:

• A qualification in Social Work, Psychology, Counselling, or a related field (Bachelor’s or Master’s level).

• Relevant certifications/training in trauma-informed care or family and domestic violence counselling may be preferred.

Experience and knowledge:

• Demonstrated experience in providing counselling and support services for individuals impacted by family and domestic violence.

• Sound understanding of the principles of Trauma Informed Care.

• Knowledge and experience of intervention work and case management with individuals experiencing domestic and family violence.

• Ability to develop networks and advocate strongly on behalf of clients in domestic and family violence situations.

• A commitment to the notion of empowerment and self-determination.

• Experience in a case management approach with an understanding of professional boundaries in relation to client work.

• Experience in providing advocacy and referral.

• Knowledge of community and government resources available to families and ability to work collaboratively with them.

• Demonstrated ability to work with people from culturally diverse backgrounds.

Skills and Attributes:

• Sound assessment and counselling skills.

• High level of interpersonal skills to build rapport working with people from diverse backgrounds

• High level communications skills, both written and oral.

• High level negotiations and advocacy skills.

• High level self-management, time management and organisational skills.

• Computing skills in word processing, spreadsheets and database.

• Ability to work independently and as a part of a multidisciplinary team.

Training and/or Licences and/or clearances:

• Current ‘C’ class driver’s licence.

• Current National Police Clearance.

• Working With Children Clearance.

• First Aid Certificate (or willingness to obtain one).
