Job Description

This position provides supervision and direct services in the Families Together Building Solutions (FTBS) Program which provides homebased services to assist in reducing child abuse/neglect, solution-focused services to assist families with meeting behaviorally specific goals and aims to keep families intact.

This position will serve Kalamazoo county.

Salary: Up to $58,905.00 annually based on relevant supervisory work experience.

Essentials Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provides services in accordance with the FTBS contract requirements.
  • Adhere to the Solution-Focused, Brief Therapy Treatment Model.
  • Provides in-home services for 90 days in duration with a possible extension up to an additional 90 days.
  • Accept referrals via telephone or in-person.
  • Provide back-up for staff, including clinical back-up.
  • Provide an average of 3 hours per week per family in face-to-face service.
  • Transports clients utilizing personal vehicle, as needed.
  • Oversee program operations related to the family’s entry and participation in the program.
  • Conduct weekly individual supervision with each FTBS worker.
  • Flexible work schedules must be maintained to ensure appointments are scheduled based on families’ needs and to allow for timely crisis intervention.
  • Facilitate bi-weekly team meetings.
  • Accompany staff on home visits as needed. At least once per staff person per contract year.
  • Orient and train new FTBS Direct Workers.
  • Shadow new FTBS Direct Workers on their first assigned case following completion of Core Training during the first two weeks of the intervention.
  • Build a cohesive team and maintain positive staff morale and staff retention.
  • Manage staff work schedules to ensure adequate back-up coverage and 24/7 availability.
  • Monitor to assure the use of required FTBS forms and completion of case documentation and follow-up visits.
  • Write Initial Prevention Plans, Updated Prevention Plans, and Closing Prevention Plans for assigned cases.
  • Review and approve, by signature and date, all required Initial Prevention Plans, Updated Prevention Plans, and Closing Prevention Plans.
  • Review two cases per year per FTBS Direct Worker. The case reviews must be submitted as instructed by the MDHHS Local Office.
  • Develop a proactive and reactive safety plan with each family, based on identified risk factors, and continually assess appropriate safety planning.
  • Conduct a routine inquiry about domestic violence with each referred family.
  • Ensure that staff receive appropriate orientation and required trainings.
  • Review and approve specific assistance expenditures.
  • Educate referral sources to ensure shared understanding of program role, requirements, and most appropriate clients.
  • Participate in performance management activities, including meetings to review performance data, policies, and procedures.
  • Collect and report data on referrals and service delivery as specified by the MDHHS Family Preservation Program Office and the MDHHS Local Office.
  • Maintain program records and documentation of services provided to each family through utilization of required MDHHS forms.
  • Attend trainings/meetings as required by MDHHS and CCWM.
  • Ensure that contractual requirements are being met.
  • Ensure an effective process for receiving, tracking, assigning referrals, and caseloads as outlined in contract.
  • Ensure staff are not assigned more cases than the maximum and that staff are exercising self-care techniques to reduce burn-out and compassion fatigue.
  • Carry a percentage of a Direct Worker caseload and percentage of a supervisor load.
  • Schedule case openings, staff vacations, training, and events that ensure program coverage.
  • Maintain regular contact with DHHS referring staff to encourage referrals and coordinate services.
  • Track and monitor progress of families and program outcome measurements including follow ups.
  • Enter family information, data, demographics, and statistical information in the Family Preservation Contractor Data and Information Exchange SharePoint.
  • Complete regular performance evaluations of FTBS staff to assess knowledge of and compliance with philosophy and intervention strategies.
  • In cooperation with the Director of Human Resources and FTBS Program Manager recommend for hire, train, supervise, develop and evaluate program staff in adherence to program and agency policy and procedures.
  • Participate in the interviewing and hiring of staff for the FTBS Program.
  • Participate in internal agency meetings, including Supervisors Meetings and other meetings, as required.
  • Participate in development of annual program budget and monitor adherence to that budget, over the year.
  • Attend court hearings with staff, when necessary, to ensure staff are supported and program model is upheld.
  • Performs other special assignments at supervisor’s request.

The staff member, on occasion, may be asked to move or lift items up to 40 pounds in weight.

Work Environment:

This position is primarily office based, however, on occasion may require travel to other Agency offices as required by position responsibilities and/or agency management. This position will be routinely exposed to typical office noise levels and/or exposure to various weather conditions.

  • Must be able to work in partnership with other team members and/or service providers.
  • Must demonstrate sensitivity and responsiveness to cultural differences present in the agency’s service population.
  • Must have the ability to forge a mutually respectful partnership with individuals and families in which they are helped to gain skills and confidence to address issues and problems.
  • Must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide services appropriate to families and children 0-18.
  • Must have the conviction about an individual’s/family’s capacity to change and grow.
  • Must have an acceptance of individual differences.
  • This position requires reliable transportation.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and good driving record with zero work restrictions.
  • Must have personal auto insurance as required by law with minimum bodily injury coverage limits of $250,000 per person/$500,000 per incident or $500,000 combined.
  • Must be willing to work a flexible schedule based on needs of the clients served. This may include working irregular hours including evenings, holidays, and weekends.
  • Must submit to agency approved background checks.

Recommended Employment Qualifications

Education:

A bachelor’s degree in any human services field or the field of education is required.

Experience:

  • A minimum of 1 year of prior supervisory work experience or potential for providing supervision to staff providing in-home services is required.
  • A minimum of 1 year of demonstrated knowledge pertaining to child welfare policies and programs, family and individual theories; treatment (intervention and technique) philosophies and strategies of home-based services, as well as knowledge and availability of local resources is required.
