Job Description

The Fall/Winter School Program Seasonal Naturalist Assistant supports the efforts of Mobile Outreach staff with educational programs, community events, office work, animal care, cleaning, and other duties as assigned. This is a short-term, entry-level opportunity designed to help candidates develop professional skills in the field of Outdoor Experiences.

  • Regular and predictable attendance is expected and required. All Cleveland Metroparks employees must be prepared to work flexible schedules, including evenings, weekends, and/or holidays as required.
  • Provides outdoor educational programs that serve to enhance Cleveland Metroparks conservation, education and outdoor recreation mission and to promote environmental education and stewardship.
  • Assists with environmental education programs within the park district and at off-site locations.
  • Participates in community events or projects as assigned.
  • Demonstrates organizational skills including verbal communication, problem solving, and conflict management.
  • Drives Park District vehicles to transport equipment as required.
  • Assists in maintaining and prepping equipment and program materials.
  • Performs light maintenance functions.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least a high school junior. Must have a strong interest in environmental education, outdoor recreation, natural resources, history, or related discipline.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license under the laws of the State of Ohio. Must obtain and maintain a current first aid/CPR certification.
  • Willing and able to engage diverse audiences in outdoor education or recreation.
  • Basic knowledge of natural and/or cultural history of the region.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders, including employees and the general public.
  • Ability to speak and write clearly, concisely and persuasively using correct grammar, spelling and punctuation with ability to communicate one-on-one or in group settings.
  • Ability to perform work with a high degree of accuracy and organization.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others.
  • Ability to perform with considerable independence and initiative.
  • Background check is required.

Work Schedule: Variable work schedule; 28-40 hours per week; starting mid-October through mid-April for a maximum duration of 6 months; Must be available to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
