Job Description

The Pritzker School of Molecular Engineering (PME) at the University of Chicago invites applications for multiple faculty positions (open rank) in Bioengineering and Immunoengineering at both the Assistant Professor and Associate/Full Professor levels. The PME is a unique interdisciplinary school with significant strengths in immunoengineering, quantum engineering, and advanced materials engineering. We are interested in expanding our research themes into new areas in bioengineering and systems biology, broadly defined.

We welcome applicants studying the immune system, cancer, cell and tissue engineering, immunotherapy, synthetic biology, development of biological methods and technologies, AI and its applications, omics, single cell methods, characterization and modeling of complex systems, multi-cellular systems and models, pathogen-host interactions, microbiome, and other topics. We especially welcome applicants who use a multi-faceted approach to biological research that integrates experiments, computation, and methods/technology development. Research programs with a translational focus are also well-suited for these positions. Applications from researchers who answer fundamental questions, as well as those focused on human health and applications of biomedical research, are both encouraged.

About the Pritzker School of Molecular Engineering

The PME was launched by the University of Chicago in 2011 with the aim of translating molecular science into solutions with impact in health and immunology, quantum information technology, and environmental sustainability. PME aims to solve important societal problems by creating synergy and collaborations across disciplines. The PME currently has 46 faculty engaged in both fundamental and applied aspects of molecular engineering. We envision significantly expanding the number of our faculty, research and education programs over the next decade. PME is affiliated with Argonne National Laboratory and the Center for Molecular Engineering at Argonne, and joint appointment is encouraged when appropriate. PME is highly integrated into the research ecosystem in the broader Chicagoland area, with joint programs and affiliations with the new Chan-Zuckerberg Biohub Chicago, Hyde Park Labs that provides additional space for academic labs and start-up companies, and the Biological Sciences Division and Physical Sciences Division at the University of Chicago. PME has joint research programs with divisions across the University of Chicago campus in cancer, immunology, microbiology, biophysics, chemical biology, neuroscience, genomics and systems biology, and computation/AI.

Qualifications

We invite applications at the ranks of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, and Professor. Applicants must hold a doctoral degree or equivalent in a field related to biology, bioengineering, chemical engineering, chemistry, physics, or a related discipline. Review of applications will continue until the positions are filled.

Candidates for Associate or Full Professor must have evidence of leadership in their field and an outstanding track record of independent research, allowing them to qualify for appointment as a tenured professor in the Pritzker School of Molecular Engineering or jointly with another department in the University. All candidates will be expected to establish and maintain a robust research program and teach at the graduate and undergraduate levels.
