Faculty Leader – Social Services
Location: Auckland (preferred), or Hamilton, Wellington, Christchurch
Full-time | Fixed-Term | HANZ Auckland

Please note: This is a 12-month fixed-term role. While our preference is for someone based in Auckland, where the team is located, we are open to considering strong candidates based in Hamilton, Wellington or Christchurch, where Yoobee also has campuses.

We are seeking an experienced academic to lead the development of our new Social Work programme portfolio as the Faculty Leader – Social Services.

Working closely with the Head of Faculty – Health & Nursing and Head of Programme Development, you will provide academic leadership across programme design, curriculum development, stakeholder engagement and quality assurance, helping establish a high-quality Social Work portfolio that meets professional accreditation, regulatory and industry requirements.

This is a hands-on academic leadership role with the opportunity to shape programmes that respond to workforce and community needs, uphold professional standards and support equitable outcomes for ākonga.

The primary focus of the role is to initiate and lead the end-to-end development and implementation of the Social Work programme portfolio, working collaboratively across faculty, programme development, quality, learning design and industry stakeholders.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Lead programme and curriculum development across the Social Work portfolio.
  • Develop programme structures, course descriptors, learning outcomes, assessment frameworks and teaching resources.
  • Create high-quality teaching, learning, and assessment resources aligned with approved programme documentation, learning outcomes, and graduate profile requirements.
  • Lead work-integrated learning, placement, supervision and professional practice models.
  • Embed Mātauranga Māori, Te Ao Māori, Pasifika perspectives and culturally responsive approaches throughout the curriculum.
  • Ensure programme development aligns with SWRB Education Standards, NZQA requirements and relevant academic quality standards.
  • Support internal approval, external accreditation and regulatory processes.
  • Establish programme implementation plans, milestones, resource requirements and delivery timelines.
  • Build strong relationships with Social Work practitioners, professional bodies, iwi, Māori and Pasifika stakeholders, employers, community organisations and placement providers.
  • Lead sector consultation to ensure programmes remain responsive to contemporary Social Work practice and workforce needs.

Qualifications

Ko wai koe | About you

You’re an experienced Social Work academic and professional with strong programme development, curriculum leadership and stakeholder engagement experience.

You’ll bring:

  • A relevant PhD or doctoral qualification in Social Work or a closely related discipline.
  • Current registration with the Social Workers Registration Board (SWRB).
  • Significant professional and academic experience in Social Work, including tertiary teaching, academic leadership, curriculum development and programme design.
  • Strong knowledge of tertiary quality assurance, regulatory and professional accreditation requirements.
  • Experience engaging with Social Work practitioners, professional bodies, iwi, Māori and Pasifika communities, employers and community organisations.
  • Strong Māori and Pasifika capability, including an understanding of Te Ao Māori, Pasifika worldviews and culturally responsive teaching approaches.
  • An understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and its application to Social Work education and practice.
  • Experience developing tertiary-level teaching, learning and assessment resources.
  • Strong communication, organisation and relationship management skills.

Experience with SWRB programme accreditation or approval processes, research and scholarly activity, established sector networks, or Moodle/LMS platforms would be advantageous.
