Job Description

The Levitt Faculty Innovation Fund supports faculty-initiated work that engages with contemporary social and political issues

Preference is given to proposals with a clearly articulated connection between theory and practice, an interdisciplinary approach, and those that do not qualify for other available funding opportunities on campus. Innovation projects may take place during the academic year or over the summer and are open to all faculty members with a minimum of a 3/5 teaching appointment.

Possible projects include building partnerships with off-campus colleagues and organizations, hosting conferences and creating networks, developing or supporting an academic or public interest journal, conducting research producing non-traditional outcomes (i.e. not an academic paper or other traditional equivalents), social innovation projects, and interdisciplinary research with academic or non-academic partners. Faculty may request expenses up to $5000 (not including student pay) and hire up to three student partners who will be paid hourly (up to $5000 per student). Projects may run during the school year or over the summer. This award does not provide faculty stipends.

All award recipients should submit a 1 page project report by August 1st of project highlights for the Levitt Center Annual Report.

Qualifications

These grants are open to all faculty members who hold at least a ⅗ teaching appointment, and who have a teaching appointment throughout the duration of the project. Funding is reserved for projects that do not qualify for other available funding opportunities on campus. A committee of Levitt Council members will evaluate the proposals.

Application Instructions

The final deadline is April 20, 2026. All proposals that involve international travel must be completed no later than February 16, 2026
