The initial appointment will be for one year beginning September 1, 2027, with the expectation of annual renewal for up to two additional years pending administrative and budgetary approval and satisfactory performance.
We seek committed scholars whose research interests engage with ethical and critical frameworks in museums, specifically in decolonial theory. The candidate should have demonstrated experience with student mentorship in academic and professional contexts. Their research should engage with diverse methodologies in museum studies, such as archival work, community engagement, cataloging, database management, and primary, source-based research.
Only candidates with professional experience in a museum or comparable cultural institution, such as archives, libraries, cultural centers, and heritage sites, will be considered.
Description:
As a faculty fellow, you will teach three courses (two in the fall semester and one in the spring) that include a required History and Theory of Museums course for first-year students and a graduate seminar related to your research offered as an elective in the spring semester. Additionally, you will work with the M.A. students to advise master's theses and actively participate in the life of a dynamic program.
Review of applications will begin on January 15, 2027, and continue until the search is complete.
Museum Studies program offers a unique interdisciplinary academic foundation in museum history and practice. Consisting of coursework, research, and a required internship, the MA program provides a well-rounded look at museums with the ability to center a focus on a particular discipline in art, history, science, anthropology, or any other field. The program's knowledgeable faculty and adjunct faculty and its international network of dedicated alumni help students expand their careers and experiences both inside and outside of the classroom.
Core classes are designed for students to understand the historical and theoretical implications of current museum practice, development and management of collections and exhibitions, and a comprehensive account of the administrative, strategic, and financial aspects of museum management. In addition to our core courses, students choose from a wide range of electives that further and deepen their understanding of museum practice and engagement. The program attracts a diverse student body, including students from all over the world. Inclusive classroom experiences are essential for our teaching.
