Job Description

The Art Program on the Tempe and Online campus at Arizona State University invites applications for Faculty Associates to teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses online and/or on-campus in: Studio Art including Animation, Ceramics, Drawing, Painting, Photography, Printmaking, and/or Sculpture.

These positions are one semester appointments, part time, non-benefits eligible with no tenure implications. A typical Faculty Associate course load is one to two classes per semester. Teaching duties include: preparing course materials, responding to and evaluating student work, and availability for one-on-one assistance (via weekly office hours for on-campus classes and electronically for online classes).

The number of courses is contingent upon needs, funding, and sufficient enrollment. Individuals hired as Faculty Associates may not hold multiple, non-benefits-eligible appointments at Arizona State University. Salary is based upon qualifications and assigned teaching load.

Anticipated start date is: Fall 2026 or Spring 2027, session A, B and/or C

Essential Duties

  • Prepare and deliver course content, including lectures, demonstrations, discussions, critiques, and other teaching activities in accordance with the approved syllabus and academic standards.
  • Evaluate student work and provide timely, constructive feedback.
  • Assist students through office hours, seminars, or online forums.
  • Support course administration as needed (e.g., syllabus preparation, coordination with teaching assistants, keeping accurate course records).
  • Teach in one or more of the following modalities: in person, online, or hybrid.

Working Environment

  • Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled classroom setting subject to extended periods of standing, lecturing, facilitating classroom activities
  • Frequently required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work
  • Occasional bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds
  • Occasional activities require ability to quickly change priorities which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts
  • Clearly communicate to perform essential functions
  • Regular use of standard office equipment including, but not limited to: computer workstation/laptop (keyboard, monitor, mouse), printer, copier, telephone and associated computer/technology peripherals

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and 4 years of industry experience or a Master’s degree in relevant field, by time of appointment, and 2 years of industry experience
  • Evidence of effective teaching

Desired qualifications:

  • MFA or Ph.D. in relevant field by time of appointment
  • Record of scholarly publication and/or evidence of professional development in relevant field
  • Minimum of two years of post-secondary teaching experience
