The Department of Performing Arts’ Dance Program in the College of Arts and Sciences at American University seeks qualified individuals to join our adjunct hiring pool and to express their interest in future, part-time teaching assignments at American University. Adjunct faculty should be working performers and/or educators in the dance field holding an MFA or an equivalent record of significant professional experience. Engagement as adjunct faculty is subject to need of the program and meeting course registration minimums.
The Dance Program at American University has made significant curricular changes to broaden the movement forms it offers. AU’s Dance Program seeks movement practitioners of all forms, with special emphasis on Urban Dance Forms/Hip Hop and Somatic forms. Movement courses to be offered will include: African, Ballet, Contemporary, Improvisation, Jazz, Musical Theatre Styles, Somatics, Tap, Urban Dance Forms. Other course teaching opportunities include: Dance as an Art Form (non-majors), Advanced Studies in Creative Practice and Advanced Studies in Critical Inquiry, among other courses.
Qualifications:
1. MFA in Dance or equivalent professional experience.
2. Higher education teaching experience preferred, particularly experience teaching undergraduates with various learning styles.
3. The successful candidate will possess the ability to work effectively with a culturally diverse student body while contributing to an inclusive dance community.
