Position Purpose
Oversee all facility/manufacturing engineering support for the GATX Moose Jaw railcar repair facility. This includes leading capital investment projects, equipment maintenance improvements (up time), and equipment/tooling-related process improvements. This role is also responsible for the Maintenance department and employees, including all aspects of safety, quality, production and cost. This role is key in supporting continuous improvement activities.

The FM Engineer interacts primarily with department managers, service center managers, and shop floor personnel. Through these interactions, the person in this position embodies the Lean tenet of “Go See, Ask Why, Show Respect,” in order to gain the trust of colleagues and effectively lead change. The incumbent must also be able to prepare, present, and defend project recommendations and decisions to upper management.
Key Job Activities: This position serves as the primary point of contact for all capital investments and manufacturing engineering support that improve shop operations. This person interacts with facility leadership, corporate facility engineering and operations finance departments, and external customers/contractors on a regular basis to develop projects and deliver improved results for shop operations. This role will report directly to shop management with dotted line reporting into the corporate Facility Engineering Dept.
