Job Description

Hologic, in Newark DE is seeking a hands-on, customer-focused Facility Mechanic to support our Newark, Delaware site. This role is ideal for someone who brings solid facilities experience, a strong service mindset, and practical trade skills to help maintain a large, highly active facility that supports sophisticated clean room manufacturing operations.

In this role, you’ll be part of the Facilities team responsible for keeping a 325,000-square-foot site running safely, efficiently, and reliably. We’re looking for someone who takes pride in the details: the person who notices a squeak, responds quickly when something needs attention, helps move furniture or clear workstations when priorities shift, and understands that facilities support directly impacts employees, operations, and production continuity.

This is a hands-on role that requires flexibility, urgency, strong communication, and a willingness to jump in where needed — whether that means supporting preventive maintenance, helping coordinate contractors, troubleshooting facility issues, or assisting with day-to-day workplace needs.

What You’ll Do

  • Support facility operations for a large manufacturing and office environment, including clean room manufacturing areas and critical infrastructure serving production lines.
  • Perform general facility repairs and maintenance, including light HVAC troubleshooting, light electrical troubleshooting, plumbing support, drywall repair, painting, furniture adjustments, and workstation moves.
  • Bring a practical trade mindset to daily work, with a preference for candidates who have strong electrical/mechanical aptitude.
  • Respond to urgent facility needs with a strong sense of ownership, especially where downtime, power loss, production disruption, or employee impact may be a concern.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and work order activities, documenting completed tasks accurately in maintenance management systems.
  • Support internal and external moves, relocations, workstation cleanouts, and furniture reconfigurations as business needs change.
  • Partner with contracted service providers, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, housekeeping, cafeteria, pest control, sprinkler, life safety, and other facilities-related vendors.
  • Facilitate building access and support maintenance work performed by landlords, contractors, or Hologic-affiliated service providers.
  • Provide maintenance support across multiple facilities as needed.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation and provide occasional weekend or off-hours support based on business needs.
  • Support employee-facing services and workplace experience, including company functions, cafeteria experience, and general office support needs.
  • Communicate clearly with employees, leaders, vendors, and team members about work being performed, timelines, and impacts.
  • Follow company policies, procedures, and safety requirements, including PPE, SOPs, QSRs, and GMPs.
  • Participate in EHS-related activities and support fire alarm shutdowns, hot work procedures, sprinkler valve checklists, and other safety or insurance-required protocols.
  • Support sustainability efforts and initiatives that help reduce the site’s environmental impact.

What We’re Looking For

We’re looking for someone who is skilled, dependable, and willing to be hands-on across a wide range of facility needs. The right person will have strong troubleshooting ability, good judgment, and a customer-service approach to supporting both people and the facility.

You’ll be successful in this role if you:

  • Have broad facilities maintenance experience in a commercial, manufacturing, industrial, or regulated environment.
  • Bring practical trade skills, with electrical experience or strong electrical troubleshooting aptitude preferred.
  • Are comfortable supporting both technical maintenance needs and general workplace service requests.
  • Understand the importance of urgency in a manufacturing environment, especially when facility issues could affect production, clean room operations, power, safety, or employee experience.
  • Are willing to help where needed, from troubleshooting a facility issue to addressing an overflowing toilet or helping shuffle furniture.
  • Take pride in maintaining a safe, clean, reliable, and professional work environment.
  • Communicate well and can explain what is happening, what needs to be done, and when work will be completed.
  • Can work independently while also collaborating effectively with the broader Facilities team and external vendors.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a maintenance, facilities, trades, or related role.
  • Electrical experience, electrician background, or strong electrical troubleshooting skills preferred.
  • Experience in an FDA-regulated, GMP, clean room, manufacturing, or other highly regulated environment preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience using preventive maintenance, work order, or computerized maintenance management systems preferred.
  • Strong communication, customer service, organizational, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and respond appropriately to changing business needs.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Physical Requirements

This role requires the ability to:

  • Stand, walk, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl frequently.
  • Lift, move, and carry up to 40 pounds, with occasional lifting up to 70 pounds.
  • Work around moving mechanical parts, vibration, moderate noise levels, and hazardous chemicals or materials.
  • Use appropriate PPE and follow all applicable safety procedures.
