Facility Maintenance Specialist - Salem
The Oregon Military Department is a state agency that supports the Oregon National Guard. You are NOT required to be a member of the Oregon National Guard to apply for this position.
The Oregon Military Department is recruiting for an Facilities Maintenance Specialist. This is a permanent full-time state position located in Salem, Oregon.
This position is represented by the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees’ (AFSCME) union.
NOTE: This recruitment announcement will be used to establish a list of qualified candidates to fill the current vacancy and may be used to fill future vacancies as they occur.

Perform skilled and semi-skilled maintenance and repair of facilities, roads and grounds, utilities, vehicles and equipment; and general armory cleaning to National Guard facilities, in support of the Oregon Army National Guard, and the RPOM Branch of the Oregon Military Department, and in compliance with State and Federal laws or regulations, policies, manuals, and procedures.
This position will occasionally require regional travel, possibly overnight.
Exposed to loud noises; works from ladders and various types of lifting devices from heights. Exposed to unsanitary conditions. Uses cleaning chemicals several times monthly. Works in windy, cold or inclement weather. Uses power tools; required to push, pull and lift/ carry up to 50 lbs. May be required to travel using a Sate vehicle. Required to perform duties wearing PPE. Occasional work is required outside of normal duty hours to mitigate emergency situations. Required to bend, stoop and stand for long periods of time.
Two years of:
a) general building maintenance
b) carpentry
c) electrical
d) mechanical
e) painting or
f) plastering experience.
A journeyman's license/card in any of the above trades will substitute for this experience. Be sure a copy of your journeyman's license/card is attached to your application form.

Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and good driving record. The employee may need to travel while performing duties at the National Guard Facilities throughout the state.

As a condition of employment, employee must have and maintain a favorable Criminal Background History check and be able to obtain and maintain a favorable Department of Defense National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI) Suitability Determination. (Conviction of a crime will not automatically preclude appointment, the circumstances involved in the conviction will be considered).
Must comply with and have knowledge to know when, where, and how to properly wear and maintain personal protective equipment.
Position requires knowledge and use of computers that manage the buildings operating systems.
Employee is required to maintain a drug/alcohol free workplace in accordance with OMD Drug/Alcohol CPM’s, Policies, and the Statewide Drug Free Workplace Policy 50-000-01.
