Job Description

The Facility Technician supports the safe, functional, and welcoming operation of the YMCA overnight camp. This role is responsible for routine maintenance, minor repairs, and grounds upkeep to ensure facilities meet YMCA standards, American Camp Association (ACA) guidelines, and applicable health and safety regulations. The Facility Technician plays a key role in supporting campers, staff, and guests by maintaining a clean, safe, and well-functioning camp environment.

SALARY RANGE: $20.00 - $25.00/Hour

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Previous experience in facilities maintenance, construction, or a related field preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and general maintenance practices.
  • Ability to safely operate hand and power tools.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and overnight/on-call shifts as needed.
  • Physically able to lift up to 50 pounds, work outdoors in varying weather conditions, and perform manual labor.
  • Ability to drive
  • Certified in CPR with AED and First Aid, or be certified within 30 days of hire.
  • Bilingual Spanish or multilingual preferred.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs to camp buildings, cabins, restrooms, kitchens, program areas, and common spaces (e.g., plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting).
  • Conduct regular inspections of facilities, equipment, and grounds to identify safety hazards, maintenance needs, or repair issues; report and address issues promptly.
  • Maintain camp grounds, including basic landscaping, trail upkeep, trash removal, and snow or debris clearing as needed.
  • Support the setup, tear-down, and reconfiguration of spaces for camp programs, special events, rentals, and retreats.
  • Assist with preventative maintenance schedules for facilities, vehicles, and equipment.
  • Respond to maintenance requests and urgent repair needs in a timely manner, including after-hours or on-call support when required.
  • Ensure tools, equipment, and maintenance areas are clean, organized, and properly stored.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for members, guests, and staff by performing routine janitorial and custodial services throughout camp.
  • Follow all YMCA policies and procedures, including risk management, emergency response, and youth protection guidelines.
  • Work collaboratively with camp leadership and program staff to minimize disruption to camp activities.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • This position works primarily at an overnight camp setting and may require extended periods outdoors, walking uneven terrain, climbing ladders, and responding to maintenance needs during active camp operations.
  • Ability to perform all physical aspects of the position, including walking, standing, bending, reaching, and lifting.
  • Ability to lift and carry objects up to 40 pounds
