
40The Facilities Technician provides facility and operational support services for the Division of Comparative Medicine. This position has a wide range of responsibilities that include, but are not limited to carpentry, painting, moving services, general maintenance, room/equipment decontamination, door repairs, equipment troubleshooting and repair.
This position serves as a backup driver for animal relocation, ensuring timely and safe delivery as scheduled. Driver ensures load is secured, environmental conditions in vehicles comply with regulations, documentation is accurate and the cargo area is sanitized between loads as per standard operation procedures. Non-animal transport loads will include caging supplies, rack systems, feed/bedding, small/large equipment and research-related materials. When serving as the backup driver, shift hours may need to flex (increase) to cover scheduled and unscheduled research needs. The position is responsible for utilizing the MaintainX mobile work order system via a university-issued mobile device to receive, document, update, and close assigned work orders.

Maintenance operations experience in a medical research, manufacturing or animal care environment.
Experience in troubleshooting and repairing small equipment, carts, or transport devices.
Experience using a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).
Basic carpentry and general maintenance experience.
Ability to meet WashU driver eligibility requirements.
Basic mechanical aptitude and experience using hand and power tools.
Ability to operate a smartphone and utilize mobile applications (MaintainX) to receive, document, update, and close work orders.
Ability to lift, move, and transport materials and equipment in accordance with university safety guidelines.
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and work independently with minimal supervision.
