Job Description

Coordinate the construction, restoration, and upkeep of architectural facilities. Develop comprehensive construction blueprints with detailed cost projections. Execute all aspects of construction projects, from fitting windows and doors to locksmith tasks, carpentry, metal stud framing, drywall installation, structural assembly, and masonry. Expertly manage repairs and maintenance duties, encompassing siding, tiling, various flooring installations, and drywall restoration.

This job will be performed Monday – Friday, approximately 7am – 3:30pm with periodical times working beyond this structure to meet project deadlines or stakeholder meetings (including possible weekend work). This position is eligible for overtime opportunities as approved by Facilities Manager. This job will require less than 10% travel to other sites outside of Carlisle, PA in a calendar year.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Spearhead construction planning and cost estimation procedures for projects, ensuring feasibility and budgetary compliance.
  • Efficiently procure required materials through strategic requisitions and maintain a meticulous inventory of essential parts.
  • Draft comprehensive work orders detailing necessary tasks and procedures.
  • Interpret blueprints, schematics, piping diagrams, and service manuals to guide precise job execution.
  • Execute precise installations of doors, windows, and locks with expert craftsmanship.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in carpentry, metal stud construction, drywall application, structural fabrication, and masonry work.
  • Conduct exterior building repairs including siding, spouting, and railing maintenance.
  • Perform interior repairs such as door installation, hardware repairs, ceramic tile installation, various flooring types, painting and drywall restoration.
  • Collaborate with Facilities Manager to support project milestones and objectives.
  • Install interior and exterior signage with precision and attention to detail.
  • Adhere strictly to safety protocols and company policies throughout all tasks and operations
  • Will be required to perform other duties as requested, directed, or assigned.

Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Skills:

  • Proficient in reading and interpreting labels on chemicals, Safety Data Sheets (SDS), and service manuals to ensure safe handling and usage.
  • Skilled in mathematical tasks including accurate counting, tallying, and understanding standard building and construction measurements.
  • Capable of drafting complete and detailed work orders, purchasing requisitions, and maintaining inventory records.
  • Experienced in reading and comprehending blueprints to guide construction and maintenance projects.
  • Proficient in utilizing a variety of hand tools with precision and efficiency.
  • Adept at meticulous record-keeping to track project progress and materials usage.
  • Skilled in operating high lifts to facilitate elevated tasks and operations.
  • Self-motivated and capable of working independently to meet project goals and deadlines effectively.

Education and Experience:

Education

  • PAT Testing Completion
  • Valid Drivers License
  • Formal Carpentry/Construction Training from a Technical school or college and related certificates preferred. Willingness to complete at a later date.

Experience

  • Prefer experience in commercial/industrial construction/maintenance.

Working Conditions:

Work Environment:

  • Plant ambient temperature matches the outside temperature
  • Potential for temperatures exceeding 120F when working near ceiling, in vulcanizers, or in boiler room.
  • Work in high places (near ceiling, carbon black system, on the roofs of all buildings on campus).
  • Potential for temperatures below 32F when working outside during the winter.
  • Dust and Fumes from water treatment chemicals.
  • Airborne dust (mica dust, chemicals in mixing).
  • Use of chemicals: carbon black, spray solvent, lubricating oil, etc.
  • Hydraulic and lubricating oils.
  • Pinch hazard on moving mechanical parts (conveyors, production equipment, shop equipment, fans and v-belts).
  • Confined spaces under equipment and above false ceilings.
  • Hearing protection is required in specified areas of the plant.
  • Respirators required in specified areas of the plant.
  • Heavy equipment operation – Forklift, tractor, truck, man lifts, etc.
  • Plant 6 chemicals – Acetone, toluene, xylene, VM&P, 90 solvent, oxsol, tert-butyl acetate, MEK, isopropyl alcohol, and indopol (others not listed)

Time Worked:

  • Hours Worked: Typically, 40 hours per week with overtime required as production ticket and project workload dictate.
  • Days of Week Worked: Typically, Monday through Friday with Saturday and/or Sunday overtime required as production ticket and project workload dictate.
  • Shifts Worked: Currently daylight (7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.) with the potential for future rotation if required.
