Department Overview
This position performs regulatory compliance inspections within OHSU Research and Academic University Buildings during the hours of 2:00 pm - 10:30 PM, Monday through Friday. The Facilities Technician Assistant is responsible for conducting routine inspections of laboratory safety eyewash stations, emergency showers, and emergency egress lighting systems to ensure proper operation and compliance with applicable safety standards and institutional requirements.
Function/Duties of Position
- Perform required monthly inspections and operational testing of laboratory emergency eyewash stations and safety showers to ensure proper function and compliance with safety standards. Document results and report deficiencies.
- Conduct routine inspections and functional testing of emergency lighting systems to verify proper operation and compliance. Record inspection results and report deficiencies.
- Replace incandescent, fluorescent and HID lamps. Clean light fixtures and luminaries. Utilize “A” frame ladders, extension ladders or lifts as needed to accomplish tasks safely.
- Assist Facilities Technicians during emergent maintenance situations by providing general support as directed to support timely response and resolution.
- Abide by all State, local and OHSU vehicle parking regulations while operating any OHSU or leased vehicle.
- This position is also a member of the inclement weather response team and is responsible for assisting with snow and ice removal during weather events. Employees may be required to report to work outside of their normal shift hours and perform duties as part of an outdoor snow and ice removal crew to help maintain safe campus conditions.
- Perform other maintenance-related tasks as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED.
- One year of facilities maintenance or trades related experience or successful completion of a Facilities Maintenance technical training program.
- Basic computer skills.
- Driver’s license required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Additional trades-related training.
- More than one year of facilities maintenance or trades related experience.
- Experience in Oracle eAM module.
Additional Details
This position will be required to drive OHSU vehicles. This position is not eligible for the Assistant Technician Training Program.
Work in extreme weather conditions, especially during Inclement Weather events. Work in confined, cramped locations. Climb up and down stairs. Climb A frame ladders up to 16 feet and extension ladders up to 40 feet. Work from scaffolding and elevated platforms.
Follow all OHSU required safety procedures during operation and maintenance of building systems. Utilize appropriate personal protection equipment as needed and required. Occasional mandatory call back work and/or overtime.
