Job Description

What You'll Be Doing

This position is within the General Services Administration Department and supports Facilities, Security Controlled Systems, Security Network, and Fleet Operations. The role includes maintaining critical database integrations across multiple enterprise platforms, providing ongoing server and workstation maintenance, and applying intermediate networking and Cisco switch configuration skills to ensure reliable system connectivity. The role also develops and maintains custom Power BI reports and dashboards and manages SharePoint sites for document management, workflow automation, and cross-departmental collaboration. Systems and data support are essential to each department's business operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and support server and virtual machine (VM) implementations including system design, installation, configuration, deployment, and ongoing maintenance of Windows Server and VM environments.
  • Set up, configure, and deploy virtual machines in VMware and Hyper-V environments
  • Install, configure, and administer Windows Server operating systems, including Windows Server 2019 and 2022
  • Install and maintain Windows workstations
  • Perform server patching, Windows updates, upgrades, and general system administration
  • Manage VM provisioning, snapshots, and resource allocation across virtual environments
  • Apply foundational to intermediate networking knowledge to support system connectivity and assist with Cisco network switch configuration and installations, including:
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory including user account and group management
  • Experience with Group Policy Objects (GPO) creation and management
  • Familiarity with Active Directory organizational unit (OU) structure and delegation of control
  • Configure and install Cisco network switches across multiple GSA facilities and locations
  • Apply intermediate knowledge of VLAN setup, port assignment, trunk configuration, and basic routing concepts
  • Support TCP/IP network connectivity troubleshooting for controlled systems and devices
  • Assist with rack installation, cable management, and physical network equipment setup
  • Develop and maintain reporting solutions using T-SQL, SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS), Power BI, and SharePoint integrations:
  • Build custom dashboards, KPIs, and visualizations to provide actionable insights
  • Generate both standard and ad hoc reports to support data-driven decision-making
  • Support cross-departmental reporting needs across GSA operations
  • Leverage SharePoint to support document management workflow automation, system documentation, and cross-departmental collaboration, ensuring controlled systems information is accessible, organized, and secure.
  • Plan, test, and implement hardware and software upgrades across control systems. Collaborate with vendors to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues, evaluate new technologies, and serve as a liaison between vendors, internal teams, departments, and system users.

The Basics (Required Education and Experience)

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Information Technology and Facility Management or related field
  • Three years of job related experience
  • A valid driver's license and "safe" driving record
  • Equivalent education and experience are accepted

Beyond the Basics (Preferred Education and Experience)

  • Five years of experience in Database querying and administration; Application Management; Database Reporting; Controlled Systems; Operations and Planning
  • Microsoft or other IT Certifications
  • Cisco Certifications
  • Experience in SQL Server, FM Systems, Facility/Fleet Management Software, Maximo, Power BI
  • Five years of Microsoft Certification Server and/or Workstations
  • Experience with Microsoft Active Directory Servers

  • Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to take data from multiple sources to identify the point of failure.
  • Ability to establish, configure, test, and maintain operating systems, application software, and system management tools.
  • Strong understanding of computer systems, database structures, and building control systems.
  • Excellent computer skills, including the ability to manipulate large databases and extract relevant information.
  • Experience with relational databases, database structures, and database management tools; experience with SQL Server Integration Services or similar database integration applications; experience with Power BI and SSRS Reporting.
  • Ability to gain business practice knowledge of database applications in order to validate data results and ensure data accuracy.
  • Capable of analyzing data and producing meaningful trends and dashboard tools for application users.
  • Advanced critical thinking and project management skills with the ability to multitask and prioritize.
  • Ability to exercise independent and sound judgment in performing the duties of the position.
