Job Description

Imagine a piloted air taxi that takes off vertically, then quietly carries you and your fellow passengers over the congested city streets below, enabling you to spend more time with the people and places that matter most. Since 2009, our team has worked steadily to make this dream a reality. We’ve designed and tested many generations of prototype aircraft capable of serving in a network of electric air taxis. We’re looking for talented, committed individuals to join our team as we push onward toward certifying the Joby aircraft, scaling our manufacturing, and launching our initial commercial service.

The Facilities Supervisor is a hands-on leadership role responsible for the daily operation, maintenance, reliability, and overall condition of Joby’s facilities. This position serves as the senior onsite technical resource for the Facilities team and acts as the primary point of contact when the Facilities Manager is off-site.

The ideal candidate brings strong building engineering experience, leadership skills, and the ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex facility issues across HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire/life safety, and other building systems.

This role is onsite in San Carlos, CA (Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM-5:00 PM PST).

Responsibilities

  • Lead daily facilities operations and prioritize, delegate, and oversee completion of facility requests
  • Serve as the senior technical resource for Facilities Technicians and Janitorial teams
  • Troubleshoot and resolve HVAC, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, fire/life safety, and building system issues
  • Perform hands-on maintenance, repairs, inspections, and troubleshooting as needed
  • Manage preventative maintenance programs, service contracts, vendors, and contractors
  • Review repair/replacement proposals and provide recommendations based on reliability, operational needs, and cost
  • Supervise and mentor Facilities Technicians and Janitorial staff and provide performance feedback
  • Respond to facility emergencies including fire alarms, security issues, power outages, HVAC failures, flooding, and other urgent conditions
  • Conduct facility inspections and coordinate corrective actions for safety, compliance, and maintenance issues
  • Support EHS, Emergency Preparedness, sustainability, and Green Initiative programs
  • Manage invoices, purchasing, expense reporting, and vendor documentation
  • Support facility projects, events, room setups, moves, and other operational needs
  • Communicate effectively with employees, leadership, vendors, property management, and internal teams
  • Develop and improve maintenance procedures, processes, and operating standards
  • Provide operational leadership and continuity when the Facilities Manager is off-site
  • Work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and emergency call-ins as needed

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree with 5+ years of relevant experience, or High School Diploma/GED with 8+ years of relevant skilled facilities, building engineering, property management, industrial, construction, or manufacturing experience
  • Strong hands-on experience with commercial or industrial building systems
  • Experience with HVAC, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, fire/life safety, and building controls
  • Experience supervising facilities, maintenance, engineering, or janitorial personnel
  • Proven experience managing vendors, contractors, service contracts, and preventative maintenance
  • Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize competing operational needs
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and CMMS/CAFM systems
  • Strong communication, organizational, and customer service skills
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-quality, lean, and scrappy environment

Desired

  • Facilities Management Professional (FMP) or Certified Facility Manager (CFM)
  • Chief Engineer, Building Engineer, Facilities Engineer, or Maintenance Supervisor experience
  • Experience in industrial, aerospace, advanced manufacturing, laboratory, or high-technology environments
  • Experience with BAS/BMS, chilled water systems, boilers, cooling towers, exhaust systems, and other complex HVAC equipment
