Position Summary
The Facility Supervisor is responsible for the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of a nonprofit residential facility. This role oversees building maintenance, safety systems, vendor coordination, and facility-related staff, ensuring a clean, secure, and supportive living environment for residents, staff, and visitors. The Facility Supervisor must hold and maintain required professional certification(s) relevant to facility operations and compliance.
Key Responsibilities
Facility Operations & Maintenance
- Oversee daily facility operations, including preventative maintenance, repairs, and inspections.
- Ensure building systems (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire/life safety, security) are functioning properly.
- Develop and manage maintenance schedules and documentation.
- Respond to facility emergencies and on-call maintenance issues as required.
Safety & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, including health, safety, and occupancy standards.
- Conduct routine safety inspections and address hazards promptly.
- Coordinate fire drills, emergency preparedness plans, and safety training.
- Maintain accurate records for audits, inspections, and licensing reviews.
Staff & Vendor Supervision
- Supervise facility and maintenance staff, including scheduling, training, and performance management.
- Coordinate and oversee contractors and vendors, review work quality, and invoices.
- Assist with hiring and onboarding of facilities-related staff as needed.
Budget & Inventory Management
- Assist in developing and managing the facilities budget.
- Monitor expenses and recommend cost-effective solutions.
- Maintain inventory of tools, equipment, software, and supplies.
Resident & Program Support
- Work collaboratively with programs and residential staff to minimize disruptions to residents.
- Ensure facility operations support the organization’s mission and resident well-being.
- Address facility-related concerns raised by residents or staff in a timely and respectful manner.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Associate’s degree or higher preferred.
- Minimum of 5+ years of experience in facilities management, building maintenance, or a related field.
Required Certification:
- Valid facility-related certification such as Certified Facilities Manager (CFM), Facilities Management Professional (FMP), HVAC certification, OSHA safety certification, or another relevant credential as required by licensing or funders.
- Knowledge of building systems, safety codes, and preventative maintenance practices.
- Experience supervising staff and coordinating vendors.
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings or weekends, as needed.
