Facilities Mechanic II or III 2nd Shift 100% - Downtown Campus-(26002903)

The University of Iowa Health Care Medical Center Downtown (MCD) is seeking a Facilities Mechanic III. This position under general supervision, performs skilled and semi-skilled work in the repairing, servicing, and maintaining of buildings and electrical, mechanical and plumbing equipment. This position will be 100%.

University of Iowa Health Care Medical Center Downtown(located at 500 E. Market Street, Iowa City, IA)is a 194-bed hospital that became part of Iowa’s only comprehensive academic health system on Jan. 31, 2024.

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Inspects, maintains, and makes operating repairs on electrical equipment and wiring, plumbing fixtures and pipe, heating, air conditioning and ventilating equipment, etc.
  • Performs preventive maintenance on motors, pumps, and other equipment, and maintains appropriate records.
  • Constructs sanitizers, installs oxygen outlets and systems according to engineering specifications.
  • Performs preventive maintenance and emergency repair work.
  • Reads and interprets blueprints, diagrams, and equipment specifications.
  • Performs work in related crafts areas as assigned.
  • Assists in directing the work of others.

Qualifications

Minimum Eligibility Requirements

  • Must possess a basic knowledge of plumbing, electricity, maintenance of steam and mechanical equipment.
  • Must have four years of work experience in the listed crafts, including apprenticeship or technical training. At least two years of that experience must be in the same craft.

Special Qualification:

  • Valid driver’s license and the ability to meet the UI Fleet Safety Driving Record Review Standards.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Ability to perform diagnostics on multiple systems including, electrical equipment systems and charging systems.
  • Experience using computers including email, excel and word.
  • Use and knowledge of commercial custodial experience.
  • Experience performing preventative maintenance and safety inspections on custodial equipment.
  • Experience performing work on charging, steering and braking systems.
  • Maintenance of pumps and motors.
  • Experience using various meters.
  • Maintains shop equipment and vehicles used in service.
  • Maintains accurate records, reports, and warranty documents.
  • Responds to calls for emergency service.
  • Safely transports commercial custodial equipment.
  • Orders and maintains parts inventory.
  • Ability to work and communicate professionally and effectively with staff and students.
  • Able to assemble and test new equipment.
  • Training experience preferred.
