We are seeking a facilities manager who is highly motivated, brings enthusiasm, and has direct mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire suppression systems, preventative maintenance knowledge, BAS experience, and asset management experience. This person will be a member of a collaborative team of dedicated highly performing staff that are responsible for the implementation of SWMP’s capital improvement and preventative maintenance projects.

DPWES provides solid waste collection services for approximately 45,000 homes, operates a 3,000 ton per day transfer station, host and oversight of one of the largest waste-to-energy facilities in north America, operates and maintains two landfill methane recovery systems, regulates solid waste services, provides education and outreach to the community, and leads sustainability initiatives to promote zero waste goals for Fairfax County. SWMP is a national and state recognized program having received accreditation from the American Public Works Association and awards from the Virginia Environmental Excellence Program. Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to the following:
(Click on the aforementioned link to learn how Fairfax County interprets equivalencies for "Any combination, experience, and training equivalent to") Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in planning, architecture, engineering, public or business administration or a closely related field: plus, five years of experience in performing building maintenance, repair and/or construction, or in managing residential or facilities development projects, including three years of experience in supervisory capacity.
The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check and driving record check to the satisfaction of the employer.
Ability to climb from ladders, steps and extensions and climb up to 16 feet to perform tasks. Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. without assistance and 25 to 50 lbs. with or without assistance. Ability to operate a vehicle. Ability to work around loud noises and dangerous moving equipment and vehicles. Ability to work in adverse weather conditions and temperatures. Ability to enter and work in a confined space (i.e., wet wells and gas flare systems). Ability to work in an environment where raw waste and household hazardous material exists. Visual competency is required to be able to differentiate wire colors. Candidate must be physically and mentally capable of performing confined space entry operations via 21" manholes with vertical descent using integral or portable ladders further requiring use of all applicable protective equipment documentation. Mobility of employee is required for county facility inspections. Able to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing. Replacement of manhole covers weighing up to 90 pounds. With or without reasonable accommodation performs duties to include pushing, pulling, lifting, bending, stooping, walking, climbing in and out of catch basins and manholes. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
