The Facilities Manager oversees all maintenance, custodial operations, and facility upkeep at the YMCA of Dane County's East YMCA branch. This position is responsible for ensuring a safe, clean, welcoming, and well-maintained environment for members, staff, volunteers, and guests. The Facilities Manager leads facility operations, manages custodial and maintenance staff, ensures compliance with YMCA standards and applicable regulations, and supports the overall mission and goals of the YMCA.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee all aspects of facility maintenance, repair, preventative maintenance, and custodial services.
  • Hire, train, schedule, supervise, and evaluate maintenance and custodial staff and volunteers.
  • Ensure a clean, safe, and welcoming environment throughout the facility and grounds.
  • Develop, manage, and monitor the facilities department budget.
  • Maintain building systems and equipment, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, lighting, and other facility infrastructure.
  • Coordinate and oversee preventative maintenance programs and vendor relationships.
  • Lead branch safety initiatives, emergency preparedness efforts, and risk management practices.
  • Conduct regular facility inspections and address maintenance and safety concerns promptly.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, including health and safety requirements.
  • Collaborate with regulatory agencies, contractors, and service providers as needed.
  • Support staff engagement and contribute to a positive member experience.
  • Participate in YMCA events, trainings, and meetings.
  • Maintain knowledge of YMCA programs, policies, procedures, and best practices.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in facility maintenance, building operations, or a related field, including supervisory experience.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and custodial systems.
  • Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects effectively.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
  • Position is primarily Monday through Friday; however, flexibility is required to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, and occasional holidays based on facility needs.
  • CPR/AED and First Aid certifications required within 30 days of hire.
  • Certified Pool Operator (CPO) and/or Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) certification required within six (6) months of hire.

Physical Requirements

  • Regularly lift, carry, move, stack, and load materials weighing up to 60 pounds.
  • Perform physical activities including climbing stairs and ladders, bending, stooping, kneeling, twisting, crawling, shoveling snow, and working in confined spaces.
  • Stand, walk, and sit for extended periods of time, both indoors and outdoors, in a variety of weather conditions.
  • Safely operate maintenance equipment including snow blowers, lawn mowers, power tools, and floor-care machinery.
  • Perform repetitive motions involving the hands, arms, and shoulders; demonstrate finger dexterity and gripping strength.
  • Respond quickly and effectively during emergencies, including situations requiring physical intervention.
