Facilities Manager

Tri-County Electric Cooperative (TCEC)

POSITION PURPOSE

This position exists to support the Cooperative's mission by ensuring facilities are safe, reliable, compliant, and fully equipped to serve employees and operational needs. The Facilities Manager provides hands-on operational leadership for building and grounds maintenance, vendor coordination, hands-on maintenance support and facility improvement efforts while reinforcing a culture rooted in the Cooperative's Essential Attributes.

JOB DIMENSIONS

Internal Responsibility Leads and supports daily facility operations by working closely alongside maintenance staff, coordinating cross-functional support, and ensuring cooperative facilities operate safely, efficiently, and without disruption.

External Responsibility Builds and maintains productive relationships with contractors, inspectors, and service providers while ensuring facility work aligns with industry standards, regulatory expectations, and safety requirements.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Models the Cooperative's Essential Attributes as a consistent pattern of behavior and encourages the same in others.
  • Provides hands-on leadership for the daily operation, maintenance, safety, and reliability of all cooperative facilities and grounds.
  • Supervises facilities and maintenance staff by setting clear expectations, assigning priorities, and reinforcing accountability for performance and results.
  • Conducts facility inspections and promotes a proactive safety culture to ensure compliance with health, regulatory, and cooperative standards.
  • Leads coordination and performance oversight of contractors, vendors, and service providers to ensure quality work and responsible cost management.
  • Plans and directs preventive maintenance, repairs, and facility improvement projects with a focus on safety, efficiency, and long-term asset stewardship.
  • Develops and manages facility-related budgets, schedules, and resources while promoting financial responsibility.
  • Maintains accurate maintenance, inspection, and compliance documentation to support operational transparency.
  • Exercises sound judgment in responding to facility-related issues and prioritizing maintenance needs to minimize operational disruption.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education and Experience Relevant trade training, certifications, or significant hands-on facilities experience is preferred. Candidates must be comfortable working in a highly operational, hands-on role supporting building systems and maintenance activities.

Operational / Functional Experience The ideal candidate is a working leader with strong technical ability and the initiative to support daily facility operations. Additional experience that will contribute to success in this role may include, but is not limited to:

  • Strong working knowledge of HVAC, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and general building systems • Hands-on troubleshooting and repair experience • Experience guiding work and setting priorities • Basic budget awareness • Strong organizational, communication • Ability to perform physical aspects of the role

While no candidate is expected to possess expertise in every area listed, successful candidates will demonstrate technical credibility, sound judgment, and a proactive approach to facility operations.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities Must possess strong practical knowledge of building systems including HVAC, electrical, mechanical, and plumbing, with the ability to troubleshoot issues and support repairs as needed. Must communicate effectively with teammates, leadership, contractors, and vendors while maintaining a professional and solutions-oriented approach. Must be adaptable and willing to adjust priorities in a hands-on, fast-paced environment. Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and perform physical tasks including lifting, bending, and manual work as operational needs require. Spanish speaking a plus.

Must be observant and safety-minded, exercising sound judgment to identify risks and support reliable facility operations.
