The British Council would like to offer students and graduates an experiential learning opportunity to gain real-world experience through an internship programme. The practical experience gained by the intern is expected to complement the theoretical knowledge acquired during their studies. The intern is expected to both learn from and contribute to the workplace during the internship period, thereby increasing their employability skills. An outcome is that students and graduates become more employable and successful because of the skills they acquire.
Role context
The Facilities team delivers and supports the operations of the British Council through effective and efficient planning and management of all its facilities, resources and fleet. The team is responsible for the day-to-day facilities operations of the Kano office. The intern will have the opportunity to put their knowledge and skills into practice in the workplace while gaining practical experience to support their career development in Facilities Management.
Main accountabilities
Understudy and learn Facilities processes, leadership, stakeholder and vendor management through interactions with the Facilities Staff in location
Assist the Facilities Team in-country in managing the Kano facilities and estate effectively and efficiently, as defined in the Regional and Country Delivery Plans.
Support the proactive maintenance management of the Kano office and compound by undertaking daily checks of facilities and equipment to ensure operational efficiency and effectiveness.
Help maintain the office and estate by supporting security arrangements and ensuring the delivery of quality customer care services within the Facilities Unit.
Support the day-to-day coordination of facilities services and project activities, ensuring relevant and timely reports are submitted to the Facilities Manager.
Assist the Facilities Team with the coordination of facilities and building improvement activities and liaise with internal and external stakeholders to support successful completion.
Provide logistical support to visitors coming to Kano.
Support the planning and management of vehicles and drivers to ensure effective transport support for British Council operations.
